This wasn't written by Egoyan and you could tell. He does leave his mark and is much better than the critics let on. Liam Neeson's wife died suddenly during the production from what I remember. As with all Egoyan's works it's worth a watch as they're always interesting.
I don't think this movie was bad, but I also don't really know what the "take away" from it is. Had it ended differently I think it would have been stronger but as it stood there was no real reason for it to have ended the way it did, so that took away from it in the end. I disagree about the other reviewer saying this isn't a thriller or a mystery, I think it was both it just didn't fill the typical mold, but that said it's also not something I'd watch again either because it was pretty easy to draw the lines of what happened here and just come to the conclusion, it ended stupidly.
Let me just start out by saying, what a pointless movie. Sure, Amanda Seyfried is pretty hot and at the end of this movie I definitely want to make love to her, but in all seriousness, Thriller? Mystery? I was expecting something completely different. I wish people would stop mistagging movies. It wasn't entirely bad but it was just an erotic drama, that was all.
Nicely shot, well acted, and pretty damn hot, but the ending is just passé since it's not 1960, and doesn't really carry the effect or shock value it would if you hadn't ever seen a movie before. This would be a subjective 7 or 8 if it had had a better ending.
