Kevin Smith has got the gang back together for Clerks 3, but unfortunately it’s current era Kevin Smith that has seemingly forgotten how to make comedy. There are some glimmers here and there but Smith not only undercuts his own humor with bizarre wackiness but he does the same with his serious dramatic moments. The moments that feel special are when we step back into some of the scenes from the original with the original players, but that might be a testament to how good the original Clerks is and a sad reminder of how far things have fallen.
Watching this movie you can feel it was a passion project. I really enjoyed seeing all those familiar faces and the movie got enough laughs and chuckles out of me. I've always had a weakspot for Brian O'Halloran in emotional scenes and he did it again in this movie. A 7 for the movie +1 for the sentiment.
Definitely, the worst in the series. There was no need to make this too many years later.
I think this is just a sad attempt by Kevin Smith to try to be relevant again when he isn't. Sequels rarely work, comedy sequels even more so. The first Clerks was a cult classic, you can't really follow up a cult classic with a sequel, let alone two (the second Clerks wasn't that great either). This sequel falls pretty flat IMO.
Who opens a movie with such terrible music in 2022!? My chemical romance is so fucking terrible, it was giving me anxiety and I turned the film off not even 3 minutes in. 0/10.
Kevin Smith returns to the well one last time to bid a fond farewell to the characters that started it all in Clerks III. After having a heart attack, Randal is inspired to make a film about the wacky antics that have happen at the Quick Stop convenience store throughout the years. Those familiar with Smith will recognize the film’s meda commentary on the making of the original Clerks; and to that end, a number of scenes from the first film are recreated with the original actors. And while there are the usual raunchy sex jokes, the tone is weightier and darker than the previous films; with Dante grieving over the loss of his family and Randall facing his own mortality. Perhaps the most personal of Smith’s films, Clerks III is a loving homage to the making of that first film and the characters that we’ve all come to love.
wow what a wonderful movie. i feel kevin smith did quite the impossible, to make the perfect trilogie. you can start the series whenever you want. with clerks 3, 2 or 1. its all connected, but its not. i like that very much. the movie was bittersweet and brutal honest. i was crying and laughing. two thumbs up!
It was essentially Randall making Clerks, but it was fun to relive all that.
It's not as funny as the first two, but it closes out the trilogy in a cute way. I was disappointed by the sad part of the film, not going to expand as it's a large part of the story, but I'm guessing the point was bad stuff happens in real life. It definitely dampens the mood, but it's still funny.
Probably more a 7 as a stand alone or less. but for the trilogy, 8.
after kevin smiths last couple films, i was really worried i was gonna be super disappointed by this…
a slow start, but definitely a good way to close out this trilogy.
I enjoyed it for what it was although it does kind of ruin Clerks II knowing what's to come.
I still think there was no need for a third "Clerks" film. The second part was actually a satisfying conclusion for Dante and Randal (Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson). However, I can't really blame Kevin Smith for digging up the characters from his debut film again, almost 30 years later. After his own heart attack, Smith obviously had something to say again. The result is a film that is clearly less humorous but much more melancholic than its two predecessors. I hardly ever laughed, but the film did pull me in emotionally.
Acting-wise, O'Halloran and Anderson are still mostly underwhelming. An exception are the scenes they share together as a duo. In these, their chemistry makes for convincing drama. The supporting characters, on the other hand, disappear into the background anyway. The closest thing to a proper supporting role is Trevor Fehrman as Quick Stop employee Elias, and he's really annoying. He also talks way too much about NFTs and cryptocurrency for my liking. Meanwhile, Rosario Dawson is good again, but she only plays a small role.
All in all, I would say that "Clerks III" is really only for connoisseurs and fans of the first two films. For them, the film can work as a nostalgic throwback to their own youth. This time it's about themes like getting older and dying, and accordingly, it's all gloomy. Accordingly, this is not a "happy" end to the series, but at least it is a fitting one. Those who were satisfied with the end of "Clerks II" can certainly ignore the third part.
What happened to Kevin Smith? Don't watch this, just remember him as he was.
Sorry but this was awful due to an unfunny emotionally manipulative script. I was bored for most of the runtime. Time to shut up shop!
Too much of a replay of the prior films and not enough fresh feeling content.
I was moderately enjoying the movie up to the point where Dante gets mad at Randal (and has his heart attack). This part was surprisingly well acted by Brian O'Halloran and everything he said about his family dying, and therefore himself dying as a result, just went straight to my heart. How dare you Kevin Smith from making you shed a tear!
As a moderate fan of all things Kevin Smith touches, I have been excited to get around to this. Somehow it was on my flight? Sign me up. Instantly turned on. I expected an average sequel, a couple chuckles, and let’s happily move on. Boy was I wrong. This movie has heart, a plot only these guys could put together, and enough of a plot to make me crave another.

The original Clerks came out when I was 6 years old. By the time I got around to watching it, no doubt I missed a lot regarding its appeal. I was working in a movie theater when Clerks II came out, having never seen the first the whole way through, and remember it as being one of the funniest movie theater experiences I've ever had. I was in tears, the theater was packed, and it was loud with so many laughing. I rank it among best theater experiences like seeing Jackass for the first time, and when Juggernaut said, "Do you know who I am?" where moments later I'm high-fiving strangers sitting around me as we cheer. I've seen a good portion of Kevin Smith's work, and while I know it's technically comedy, I don't find myself seeking out his creative voice for laughs.
Kevin Smith is sincere. His draw is how much he actually cares about the subject matter he's speaking about. Whether it's Comic Book Men, or making sure The Impractical Jokers make cameos, he likes his people, he connects, and he wants those in his circles to keep feeling included. I find that incredibly compelling. This movie was great because it shows you that you can genuinely appreciate your past without turning it into some lazy mockery for a few more nostalgia bucks. If this would have come out before the overwhelming wave of reboots and sequels, we could have continued to point to what's been missing.
I watch a lot of media sped up. I don't find what a lot of creators say that interesting, novel, or real. I didn't want to speed this up. I wanted to be awash in the connections as I think they feel them that I don't really have. This depiction of family isn't some hokey Fast & The Furious thing or belabored sentimentality that never transcends narrative clunky cliches. This family grows and evolves together. I'm jealous and sad. Great job.
Starts off really rough and gets infinitely better.
Why??? I'm not a "sequels shouldn't be made" kind of guy. But. This movie shouldn't have been made. It didn't deliver the laughs for me like the first Clerks movie and Dogma. At times it was a bit depressing (although I think Kevin Smith wanted us to feel that way).
The only good thing IMO was Rosario Dawson showing up once in a while, and she has become Hot AF since Clerks 2.
PS: The end commentary by Kevin Smith was great. Like I said at the start this was a bit depressing movie overall. Kids, please visit http://viewaskew.com/films.html to find all the films with Jay and Silent Bob.
Was very good when it took itself a bit seriously and actually had a plot. Forcing lines from previous movies awkwardly in derailed it a bit. Overall, the weakest in the series but it did stick the ending.

Not the best film but a really nice ending to a series Kevin smith clearly cared a lot about. Stay for the credits to listen to him talk a little about the film, it was very wholesome.
