Nolan's short had me gripped merely on his claustrophobic, anxious atmosphere and an eerie sense of unknown, but its twist frighteningly suggested even more layers, acting like a barebones depiction of his trademark "reality-within-reality" motif, as will come to be seen in works like Inception (dream-within-dream) & Memento (photograph-within-photograph). A solid beginning for a legend.
Seems weird for weirdness sake. I'm glad Nolan became a much, much better storyteller than this.

Doodlebug is only 3 minutes long, but it still left me thinking and it also left me analysis the short film of what's the meaning and the message behind it. Nolan you are a genius film maker.
