me as an om: "oh no don't step on me kind draag hahaha :flushed: please no don't kill me hahaha "
Unique and weird is what this movie is. I'm sure some people will really like that.
Someone who was mean to ants as a child was trippin’ balls on some acid when a friend handed them a notebook and something to write with.
The original title of the film is La planète sauvage.
It is a science fiction movie very different from the others. It almost looks more like a Dalí or Bosco painting animated with psychedelic touches. In that style, to tell the truth, it shares a certain abstraction with Russian animation 'The glass harmonica' (1968).
I can not say too much. I am not an expert in this style of movies.
Imagine the kid in The Point! tripping balls on bad acid and you have his journey to the Fantastic Planet (which is a misnomer because it should be called the So-So Planet).
As this was made for tweens on acid (ah, the early 70s), I'm not the target market, but that didn't stop me from appreciating the dark images and anti-racism allusions. Still, as neither of these aspects were worked deeply enough, my enjoyment stayed as 2D as the animation.
A little unknown gem of animation that needs to be watched. It's disconnected story and character relatability is a little lacking but the movie more than makes up for it by beautiful illustrations, interesting and creatively designed creatures and a catchy otherworldly soundtrack that is worth listening to outside of the film.

We, the Gods, and the Dogs are not so unalike. Not so alien a concept.
