Hamilton 2020

I wish more musicals would get released like this after their runtime in theaters for people like me who have no way to see them live.

Incredible. A current twist on Broadway and on the Founding Fathers. Even if you've never thought you would love the theater, this is the one. Putting it into a film, releasing it for the Fourth of July, Disney just did something amazing for American Art. Bravo Zulu.

It really lived up to the hype. I wish I could of seen this live with the original cast.

Incredible performance from the opening scene to the very end. The movement on stage, the camera angles and the acting - wonderful. This is a must see filmed stage production. Includes camera angles you'd never see in the audience.

Well, I can certainly see what the big deal is. An interesting story. Amazing lyrics. Fantastic performances. I was completely blown away and actually moved to tears at the end of the show. Well done all.

One thing always bothered me about musicals that sing their regular dialogue. It always sounded weird and didn't feel like real music. Like it felt forced. Like they always should have just spoke that dialogue. While there's still a little of that in Hamilton, there's not as much as I think the use of rap significantly alleviates that problem, because rap can feel more like dialogue while still having a flow and rhythm to it. It doesn't feel as unnatural when you do it that way. I would love to see more musicals in the future use that as an idea to smooth out the stuff they need as dialogue, even if they don't want to stop the musical flow.

Aside from that, most of the songs were great. This show did a much better job having very few songs that were not as musically interesting as the others, so it kept my attention throughout. The sections with the king were a particular favorite of mine.

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Hamilton’:

  1. I‘m not a history buff and I admittedly know VERY little about our country’s founding fathers. ‘Hamilton’ is not a place to learn, it’s one that expects you to know — and that was the barrier for me to fully enjoy it. The political/history aspects were lost on me — despite an insane amount of talent and an incredible production.

  2. “Satisfied” was my favorite number. Absolutely amazing.

  3. Jonathan Groff was a DELIGHT.

This is completely over hyped & was way over priced. I’ll be honest I’ve seen this in person twice; once on broadway & once in another city. I got hooked up with tickets at face value so it was no brainer to go see it as I love musicals and have seen many shows on & off broadway.

I found the story boring, the songs and lyrics to be lackluster. I found the design and costumes left me with a big ‘meh’. But the actors were awesome. I actually fell a sleep through the show, both times I saw it. It was that boring for me personally.

LMM applies his signature style to music creation; pop sounds that people can easily follow while copying the rapping style of Eminem (in this case).

What I hope ‘Hamilton’ does is open you up to all the OTHER amazing musicals that are out there. And there are tons! And much better ones. Whatever you do, don’t limit yourself to this one. Musicals have been around a long time and will be here long after the ‘Hamilton’ hype officially dies down.

"Wow!" is the only word for this.

Brilliant musical that makes me feel emotions I did not know existed, empathy, sadnesss, sursprise, fear and satisfaction. Warning, time flies by

This is very good & very, very long. The performances from everyone deserves applause, the music is wonderful & I'm glad it's being released, but as a non musical watcher, damn am I never gonna sit down and rewatch this. This was a two sitting experience

I'm not even an american and I really enjoyed this one. I mean I can understand the hype for this, why it became pop culture and everything. I gave it an 8 because there are some lyrics of musical numbers that doesn't fit the melody so it's kinda feel strange to hear. But overall it's great. I'm glad disney+ got the distribution rights for this one so all over the world can see this.

I really love musicals and I was so happy that Disney brought us Hamilton into our homes. I had not had a chance to see the musical live on Broadway so this was the next best thing.
The musical itself is really good and very well sung and acted. There are some cool and also some beautiful songs in it.

WOW! This is a powerful musical. The writing was great. The acting was great. The music was great. The staging was great. I think all musicals, they want to turn into a movie, should be made this way. Just film the actual play/musical itself. I have a feeling CATS would have sold many many more tickets if they had simply filmed the stage version.
There is one item in the musical that I have to mention. They do a rewind a couple of times. One of them was more obvious and longer and it is a beautiful thing to watch.

[Disney+] Although the direction is debatable and the audience screams as if they were watching "America Got's Talent", the musical maintains the essence of a work that in the Black Lives Matter society takes on a special dimension. Too bad the stage design cannot be clearly seen in the camera layout, but at least we can see in detail the splendid work of Leslie Odom, Jr. (amazing) or Lin-Manuel Miranda.

I'm not a musicals fan but I watched it to see what all the fuss is about. Wow, now I get it. I was nodding my head for almost 3 hours. Genius.

No spoilers here. I only want to tell you that if you don't adore and love hip hop like crazy, you won't find this entertaining, because it's nothing more than a 3 hour bad rap, without the girlz in bikini. The most overrated musicals I've ever seen so far.

Absolutely astonishing! The entire cast is incredible, but Renee Alise Goldsberry and Daveen Diggs nearly steal the show. Of course, the biggest star is Lin-Manuel Miranda himself, and his smart, funny, emotional lyrics, his beautiful music and his moving performance. "My Shot" is rousing and thrilling, the rap battles intelligent and funny and if "It's Quiet Uptown" doesn't have you in tears then you're not human. This production is wonderfully directed, I almost felt I was there.

This was epic. I love a good musical, and one I can learn from? Even better :D

I gave up, can't watch musicals

After seeing the live touring company I was looking forward to the movie because subtitles. It was nice to catch up on the missed rapped lyrics, and to see the original cast, but still... meh. I am a fan of LMMs In the Heights, but Hamilton just doesn't live up to the hype. Maybe you have to be a hip hop fan. I couldn't get past the coarse lyrics either. But the ballads (actual singing) and some of the clever lyrics redeemed it somewhat. I gave it a shot...

Is it enjoyable? Yes.
Is it impressive? Yes.
Is it a movie? No.

Because of that it’s not fair to rate is as a normal movie. I’m not a big fan of musicals, but this was actually great and I was surprised that I liked most of it. Strong story with a modern twist, good performances and a bunch of catchy songs. All in all, it was a nice surprise!

This musical has a bit of a reputation. Wish it didn't though, it's still entertaining, and even better to see in person.

I can just keep rewatching this.

It was so so good. 11/10.

You need to know how to teach the history to reach a wider audience. Here it turned out very well.
Aditional +1 for amazing choreagraphy, especially for those "slow motion" effects.

Would genuinely rather die than ever be subjected to this abomination in my lifetime. Never seen it and never will see it. Garbage.

Excuse me.. Are you Aaron Burr, sir?

Wanted to see what the hype was about - and i totally get it - but the subject matter was just not interesting to me.

{This is not a majority opinion} A musical play so barrier breaking it was sold out for most of its run. An historical biography told by thoroughly modern rhythms and rhymes. For the audacity, poetry, artistry and performances it deserves a 10 and it probably will always be rated as such by Americans. But, I’m not American, and my enthusiasm was dampened by the blind patriotism of its narrative. What was clear to me, however, is that the partisan divide that is so raw today had its seed in its very founding. This in a nation born to destroy itself. I’m glad I saw this production once, but it’s not something I’d watch again. I give this play a 7.9 (perfectly crafted but warped by its bias) out of 10. [Musical Biography]

My first foray into the musical genre but now most certainly will not be my last. Hamilton is punchy, humorous and informative yet emotional ride from start to finish. Really a tour de force for everyone involved. A must watch.
