Hiroshima, mon amour is a film made to be remade. If I'd normally say I don't like this kind of film but have never seen a film like this before, does that mean I like it? No, because the heavy handed directing and melodramatic dialog erode every level of a very rich plot.
The real tragedy of Hiroshima, mon amour is that it oversimplifies a complex woman, and so what could be a beautiful character analysis ends up as character assassination.

There's a lot here to unpack and it's a film I want to revisit and sit with with fewer distractions (this new baby is killing me.) For now, it felt a little too abstract for me and what could have been an interesting character study felt like it was hampered at times by an opaque screenplay
