Awesome Movie!! One of my fave Superhero flicks!!
Many things that don't make sense:
– How does one live with a huge hole on his chest? Is he inmortal?
– How does one survive a high altitude fall into the sand, with no protection? He is inmortal.
– Why would Obadiah want Tony Stark murdered? After his kidnapping and change of heart, sure, but before? He is the golden goose... even Obadiah admits it so!
– Also, why would he keep the incriminating video messages on the company server? For a criminal mastermind, he's pretty dumb :joy:
– Why is Tony breathless and weak when the chest thingie is off? The magnet is supposed to stop the sharpnel inside his body from reaching the heart... it's not powering the heart itself!
– By the way, how does a magnet near the heart stop sharpnel from reaching the heart? Doesn't the magnet attract the metal? Closer to the heart?
– Isn't there anything else in the human body that could get pierced by sharpnel and kill you? Lungs, liver, stomach, arteries... :rolling_eyes:
– Why does the generator run out of power? 20%, 15%... it's a generator, not a batery!
Anyway, good movie, fun to watch without thinking too much... and great start for the Marvel Universe, who would have thought all that was to come after this? :nerd: (Not Terrence Howard, that's for sure :zany_face::joy:)
Considered a Classic superhero movie that kicked off the MCU
After watched End Game and then this one. The "Proof" made me cried. :')

Like the very much anti-imperialist slant Iron Man is somewhat going for, but I do find it a bit confused. Tony Stark realizing his weapons are just propagating the terrorism from home and how the US generates the war effort from weapon manufacturers, but it still has a messy lens from Bush-era politics of intervening still because "it's personal", where it seeps in somewhat as a creator mad at its misuse because it's on his conscience (Gulmira is a personal attachment from Yinsen and his weapons are still being misused), rather than a climb to sanity towards the tools of destruction, although it does go a few steps forwards on this, and it's one person rather than the military. Still an imperialist justification innit?
I like how Stark is confronted character wise on his arrogance, but it doesn't get rid of his smarminess and it makes him mostly unlikable for me even with scenes with Pepper that are heartfelt. At least he's called out for it, dumbly trying to right himself and the film exposits it as a messy road with consequences despite his well-intentions (he almost gives Obadiah tools of even bigger destruction if he wasn't there to intervene in the end).
Pepper really showcasing the weird, awkward, and slightly yikes power gap in the relationship of an employer and their employee. I get that the movie lampshades this by having Pepper literally point it out, even trying to close the power gap a bit with how he "wouldn't even be able to tie his shoes" without her, giving her quitting more possible weight to the other firing her, but it's still weird!
The few soundtrack choices are excellent (Suicidal Tendencies... perfection), but the score itself is weak as hell. I don't know a single musical score for a film from Ramin Djawadi that was ever any good, the closest being Pacific Rim and that wasn't even all him (Tom Morello helped out on a few notable songs)! Only good stuff is for TV a la Prison Break, Game of Thrones, or Westworld, and the last one is mostly orchestral covers even if they're used well. Maybe it's because he doesn't put up much of a fight with directors like Favreau when it comes to temp tracks in film? Not sure. Still very weak, impossible to note. Even for the scenes' use it's very disappointing, barely adding anything save for the strings coming through in the mix at very predictable times for something "epic".
It's so nice to see a film that isn't grey as fuck color grading, but also the nighttime itself isn't that pretty. I don't need CG lens flares but it's too muted for the most part. There are pretty shots like the "Jericho" presentation and Iron Man falling down from a tank shot, and the IMAX Enhanced version does add a bit more depth to some shots like the mountains. Not that huge of an improvement, but noticeable! CG is also great for the most part save for some spotty parts in the end (bobbing head with Obadiah), but the Iron Man suit... master class.
I think the film is mostly well shot for action pieces, but other than the last fight and the mass explosions of the weapons at the end of the first act, I wasn't super impressed. Felt like the action was just underbaked in terms of how it's showcased and written, or maybe my bar is too high. It's neat though to see gadget-y things like the targeting in the hostage situation. At least it's not CUT CUT CUT.
For a film that's clearly trying to stay away from an R rating, laughing really hard at the... "interesting" POV from the bus in the last fight to look visually stimulating. Iron Man gets hit into the bus, and the cut into the view from the bus gives visual information that somebody is looking outside AT him, implying there are people in there... and then the bus is blown up with no bodies. The explanation comes earlier, there's a scene with people mass evacuating from the bus, but I think it's interesting visual confusion.
Top tier performance from Jeff Bridges. The meme of a box of scraps is probably because it's such a killer performance of the line. I also like RDJ, Paltrow, and Howard, really funny in particular to hear Howard say "humanitarian" so loudly, a parallel to Bridges calling the peaceful people "hippies", performances really hammering in that point. Bridges is so good in a villainous role.
Breath of fresh air to have a MCU film that isn't wall to wall in quips. My sister pointed out that the quips are mostly from RDJ, while the rest are mostly visual gags like harsh cuts, which is my fav humor in the film tbh. I love the setup-punchline of it ("No I won't be drinking...." 1 harsh cut later and he's completely drunk), wonder if that's what Favreau is known for. The quips are also characterized, where RDJ is more of reactionary quipping as he's clearly not in full control ever (constantly missing timelines, emotionally wrecked internally, etc.). I don't think quips on their own are bad. Think facing adversity with humor is just a very human thing in general (a la Rhodes with "how was the Fun-vee?"), but I also think it's better that it's rare instead of all the time.
Frankly would've edited that entire scene of Iron Man saving the military guy with his parachute out of the film. It's tonally confused in the concept of him trying to run away from the military/going rogue by himself, and it barely gets any weight so the payoff is worthless. I'm totally up for superheroes saving the common guy, there's a funny moment after saving the people in Gulmira with leaving the person responsible for gunning them up without his gun, in the middle of a crowd that's absolutely going to do some avenging (hehe), but you can't make the military trying to shoot him and then "help save me" the next second.
To sum it up, messy anti-imperialism theming but mostly decent film with a good character direction for Tony Stark.
Rewatched on Disney+, IMAX Enhanced Edition
Iron Man was an excellent start for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel had pulled off a remarkable feat by taking their superheroes and started making their own movies in house, and they did it well. Iron Man (with the exception of Nolan's Batman movies and Spider-Man 1 & 2 [not the 3rd one]) is a fine example of what every superhero genre film needs to be. It had a great story line and amazing action scenes along with a great cast. Robert Downey Jr. was an excellent choice to play Tony Stark. I also enjoy how Marvel is making these movies with a thought out plan connecting this film with other superhero films' creating a franchise unlike anything has been seen in the movie business.
A great way to launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The origin story that started it all.
The superhero-loving geek in me has to rate this high. Robert Downey Jr. is simply one of the best actors alive and his portrayal of the flawed Tony Stark is exactly what it needs to be. The special effects are excellent as well and to bring such a technologically advanced character as Iron Man to the screen was really not possible until now. Iron Man in flight is a fantastic spectacle and his early test flight over the city is one of the film's many highlights. Bringing us inside the Iron Man suit with Stark to hear the dialogue between him and the suit's computer adds a lot to the action. The final battle scene is a bit of a letdown as the conflicts elsewhere in the movie are stunning. The ending is spot on perfect providing evidence that although Stark has had a change of heart he has not lost his attitude or impulsiveness.
The 1 that changed the game, a simple redemption story executed well

The movie that started it all, the building blocks of the MCU.
A jaded, egotistical, charismatic playboy weapons manufacturer is forced to take a close look at the human toll charged by his product and undergoes a morality crisis. As a means of getting through that, and making amends for his contributions to the military-industrial complex, he develops a succession of swanky, flying, armored suits and blows stuff up. I'm being a little snarky here, because the plot does an admirable job of cartwheeling through the various explanations and motives behind that transition and it's never quite so simple as "bad guys can get rockets so I built a special rocket with racing strips that only I can control." And even if it were, isn't that a perfect encapsulation of the public attitude taken by most media-friendly billionaires?
Jon Favreau does a tremendous job in the director's chair, establishing the tone and character of the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe in one clean, tight swoop. There's a lot of dangerous territory to tread here, iffy moments that could've easily fallen on the wrong side of the cornball, but Favreau manages to get through each one without losing credibility or thumbing his nose at the spirit of the source material. That's a whole lot easier said than done.
Still, I'm not sure this ship could've stayed afloat without Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. He is the wind in the MCU's sails, a picture-perfect casting who dominates the screen every time he's near it. As a personality-driven action movie, that kind of presence is crucial. His balance of smug arrogance, cynical humor, intense determination and technological brilliance is just right, a wonderfully complex, fascinating turn which reveals different facets in every new light. No wonder they built a trillion-dollar franchise around this guy. His initial foil, a bald-and-bearded Jeff Bridges, is also very well developed and portrayed. I wish he'd stuck around for one or two sequels, because good villains would soon become a major weakness for this series and his character arc really splutters at the end.

I don't like fantasy or superheroes movies or anything like that but i decided to gave it a chance and i liked it a lot..Now understand why so many fans got crazy with this one it was just great!
[MCU Rewatch Review]
Amazing introduce movie, not only to Tony Stark but for the Cinematic Universe of Marvel as well. The movie formula gets boring with the pass of years with Marvel abusing of it, causing Iron Man trilogy to not grow old very well. But for the Marvel fans, action fans and Iron Man fans, the movie could not be better.
Forgot how good this film was, it really is one of the better superhero orgin movies, Robert Downey Jr. is amazing as Tony Stark ,Gwyneth Paltrow is great as Pepper Potts I wasn't the craziest about Jeff Bridges charcter and the movie was a little predictable but still a great film that started it all.
Marvel got it oh, so, ever right when they cast Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. His character set the tone for all the wit and humour that is now the colour of the Marvel Universe. Gwyneth Paltrow plays his perfect match. Superb in every sense - tone, performances, action, CGI, tension in the plot and the establishment of the Avenger/ S.H.I.E.L.D relationship. Even in this second viewing, 11 years after its release, it hasn't lost a beat. I give this film a 9 (superb) out of 10. [Superhero Action Adventure]
Still the best movie in the Iron Man franchise.
The movie did not disappoint. On the Marvel scale, I would place it real close to the joy of watching the first Spider Man and as far away from Eric Bana's Hulk as you possibly can. The opening action sequence was a delight. They were able to introduce you to Tony Stark the person with just a few minutes of banter and then wallop you with the action that already makes you really like this guy. I loved the part where he is being interviewed and the woman says that he is compared to Da Vinci and he says, that's crazy because he doesn't paint. Don't know why thought it was funny. I initially thought Academy Award winner Gywneth Paltrow had been miscast as Tony's assistant but as they expaned her role I realized that they had made an excellent choice. She didn't try to steal any scenes and it was clear throughout the movie that Tony/Iron Man was the star. Of course you can dissect the story as much or as little as you want but it does hold together enough to support the fun of watching this movie. With the couple hints at sequels in the movie, I only hope it becomes reality.
One of the few good Marvel solo movies. Robert Downey made Tony Stark in this film, to the point it's hard to imagine Stark being played by other actors. As one of the first superhero movies, Iron Man's origin story still comes of as fresh; even after other origin stories, Iron Man 1 still manages to give us a fresh take on superhero movie as it explores Stark's feat as an engineer, and a less cartoony portrayal of the villain, Obadiah Stane. Marvel has always stepped into the pitfall to making its villains as cartoon villains with childish motives and unbelievable actions; Stane stands out as one among them as his motives seems to be more grounded in reality (motivated by arms race). It is only when Stane resorted to killing Stark that it becomes a bit cartoony, but it's still a good Marvel movie in general.
It's a entertaining movie, but they should've given the villain some depth. He was just a flat character and you could tell he was the typical bad guy from the very first scene.
And even though I'm not a big Robert Downey Jr fan, I have to admit he's a great Tony Stark. Like I said, it's an entertaining movie.
Very good start to what is proving to be a VERY profitable super-hero adaptation enterprise for Marvel. Good balance of threat versus discovery vs. ups and downs. This film has rescued Downey Jr.'s career, for sure. ;)

Even though I'm far less a fan than I was a few years ago, I might do an MCU rewatch up until Deadpool 3. That aside, Iron Man is still fantastic. Sure there's some really ropey CGI in places but other than that, nearly everything works. It's fantastic.
Such a powerful peice of propaganda made visually beautiful and connecting. Tony Stark without a doubt was the glue to the mcu and his trilogy showed exactly why.
In just 12 years, Jon Favreau went from writing and starring in one of the best indie movies of the 90s about the life of a struggling actor (Swingers) to kicking off one of the biggest film franchises of all time. Kinda fitting in a way, given that Doug Liman was able to go from Swingers to The Bourne Identity in only six years; the combined talent on Swingers went on to change the industry for decades to come. Not least of all leading to one of my favorite quotes from Parks and Recreation:
"I thought we as a culture agreed to forget the year that everyone was into swing music."
A testament to what casting the perfect actor as the lead can do for a movie. So much of this is carried by the riffing of the characters, it makes the entire movie work. I also find it interesting how the textures and colours of this movie are so much better compared to a lot of other Marvel films. However, you can also see a lot of the problems that would go on to define the MCU from here. Too many predictable elements, a bland score, boring villain, forgettable/unimaginative camerawork; it’s all here already. Still, it has a lot of funny, entertaining scenes, and I like how they sometimes manage to get a few more laughs out of it by making smart editing choices. The action’s pretty decent, nothing particularly mindblowing but I like how heavy and rudimentary the suit feels in this. I always thought it looked to weightless and cartoonish in the later films, this really sells the illusion of a man in an iron suit by comparison. All in all, a very meat-and-potatoes superhero movie, but one that holds up rather well.

Iron Man is easily my favorite Marvel film of all time. Robert Downey Jr. gives a career-defining performance as Tony Stark, bringing his unique blend of humor and charisma. The action scenes in the movie are a real highlight, blending practical effects with stunning CGI to create scenes that are faithful to the source material. The film's commitment to sticking to its comic book roots is a real strength, and fans of the Iron Man character will appreciate the attention to detail. A must-see for any fan of the Marvel Universe.

Marvel Are The Boss
They should have stopped here and then released a new superhero movie a decade later. This is a great action movie with some teeth in it and a great performance by Downey. Sadly, this spawned what we see now: superhero movies non-stop, superhero shows non-stop, spin offs of said shows and movies, spin offs of spin offs. Basically I can't bring myself to even watch this good movie anymore because I'm supremely sick of superhero movies to the point that I just ignore any that come out anymore.
53 I There was a time when Marvel Cinematic Universe is not a thing. People would watch anything in theater such as horror, drama, thriller, or comedy. But since Iron Man was released MCU take over the cinema/theater industry. Every time people go to watch a film in a big theater, they want to watch a superhero film. Since then marvel cinematic universe unbeatable at the top box office. MCU is very well visualized and produced. People behind it thought about its future. They even planned for 30 years in the future. MCU would be or already is a cinematic universe through generations.
Robert Downey Jr brought that millionaire smart guy from the comic book into a film. He is perfect for the role. He could act like a playboy who does whatever he wants because he is rich. But because of an event, changed his perspective on his life. What he did for his Stark industries is based on a lie and corrupt people. This film could be said successful to made us wonder, is it what happening in our world? Is that why war never ended, because of the industrial weaponry complex? The people who act to stop the war are also the ones who created it.
Iron Man is a bit political and has a heavier subject than most MCU films. Unfortunately, after Iron Man, MCU films had tuned down the heavy materials so general audiences could grasp the story easier. If MCU keeps the standard at least like the first film that they made, MCU could be a stronger franchise than what it is right now. But, well, people need to make money out of it, and that's okay.
Even though Iron Man has many good things, it is a bit overrated. There are still many bad parts but fortunately only minor things. The first half of this film is pretty good but the second half is pretty generic. Obadiah, the main antagonist is felt like a formulaic antagonist. He is so one-dimensional, that was unfortunate because he could be a complicated character with his position in the film. Also when Iron Man fighting him it is predictable and boring because he suddenly becomes weaker and Iron Man got a plot armor. MCU should work on their action scene better. But it is good enough for the 2008 film.
It is not MCU if there are no funny moments in the film. The funny part in Iron Man almost all of it comes from Tony Stark's mouth. He has a good dialogue to make us entertained while watching this film. Even though the film has a slow pace in the beginning it not bored us because of Tony's appearance. Robert Downey Jr nailed his performance.
It is an amazing and nostalgic experience to watch this film. It is nostalgic because of how Marvel Cinematic Universe can come this far. If we have kids someday or if we already have and they want to watch films, we could easily recommend this cinematic universe to them. There are probably better films from DC comic adaptations but we all know Marvel has a better cinematic universe.

This movie broke major ground, and is highly regarded among fans to this day, but I can't say I loved it mostly because of how I've matured politically over the years. I've got problems with the nature of Stark's turnaround post-escape from an anti-imperialist angle (and the random and unnecessary transphobic joke doesn't help). Luckily these problems fade by the middle point of the movie and my reservations mostly fade along with it. That said, groundbreaker though it is, there are some aspects that don't hold up so well even baring politics, like Terrence Howard's performance and a few plot holes. Bridges is incredible though, and so is Downey Jr obviously.
ETA: Gotta say after rewatch the political issues I have with this movie only get worse. I'm keeping my rating the same because I know its a well put together movie from any reasonable film criticism angle but god the imperialist framing I have to accept for most of the movie is so bad.
For the "first" MCU movie, Iron Man does very well. RDJ is amazing, he was really born to be Tony. Along with Captain America, it is one of the best films of phase one.
Not a single MCU movie I've seen will top this.
The action looks a little dated if compared to recent superhero movies, but other than that, "Iron Man" is still one of the most balanced movies in its genre. Light and straightforward without getting too corny, flashy and entertaining without getting all over the place. It's the perfect example of a superhero movie that doesn't need a cerebral plot or a dark and pretentious tone to be good. Writing is not the sharpest, but you will love Tony Stark's witty lines and eccentric persona before he turns into a jerk in the unfortunate sequel. He is one of those well-rounded modern heroes whose flaws end up being the main reason for their charm.
The first half, which shows Iron Man's origin and first steps as a superhero, is incredibly solid. Tony does not simply turn into a superhero: I liked that they spent a lot of time showing how hard it was for him to wear the suit at the beginning, how his first experiments didn't always have the best results.
Despite the careful construction during the first half, the movie starts losing direction in the second half. It's like when you spend hours lining up your action figures and distributing weapons, and then when it's time to play you already got tired of the whole thing.
Start of it all. "I am Iron man!"
The turning point for Marvel but to quote Ryan Reynolds "it started with Blade"
This movie holds up tremendously, capturing the smallness of the early MCU while also providing a constantly entertaining experience. I love that Iron Man’s origin story is Stark’s battle against his legacy. Also, the origin story of the Iron Man suit is still one of the best in the MCU

Ranked: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Robert Downey Jr. certainly is Iron Man! And the first movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe still holds up! It's a fun right, a great introduction to the character Tony Stark, Jeff Bridges is a good villain, the casting is just great in this one, great soundtrack, very funny at times and times never feels like freezing like the suit did.
Always fun to rewatch this one.
My first taste of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A great start!
I absolutely enjoyed seeing 'Iron Man'. Robert Downey Jr. is terrific as the titular character, who is a blast to watch throughout - love the design! The plot is very entertaining, I like how it tells the story; simply, but very effectively. Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow, meanwhile, all add to the film with good performances.
The special effects are very neat, as are all the action sequences. I will say the score isn't the strongest, at least in terms of what I'd expect from this sorta film. I wouldn't say it's bad per se, just not as spectacular as it could've (should've?) been; especially with someone like Ramin Djawadi composing. I love a film with great music, so hopefully that improves as I watch the MCU expand.

When a movie starts out to the sounds of AC/DCs Back in Black, you're usually in for a treat, and Iron Man is no different.
Simple, but incredibly entertaining story, with no forced anti-man, feministic, stupidity, and hidden agendas. Just plain fun...and just what a superhero movie should be about.
Good acting, even great in Downey, Jr's case. Good special effects with incredible action scenes, and probably the best origin story of ANY superhero makes Iron Man an instant classic.
The MCU really started out on a high note...too bad they managed to F. things up so badly later on.
...and yes...The end credits start with the riffs from Black Sabbath's Iron Man...talk about fitting.
Robert Downey Jr. is excellent. The guy was born for the this role. The effects are excellent.
I'd give it an 8 for not wanting to give too high a score to compare it with the next Marvel movies I'm going to watch, but any movie with an oh-so-sexy Gwyneth Parltrow deserves a 9.

Iron Man is more than just your average origin story. Story-wise it's also a tense prisoner drama and a social commentary on the weapons industry and smart warfare. It feels like a real struggle for survival, which makes Tony's ascension into Iron Man even more satisfying. What is great about the plot is its two distinct halves: the first in the desert, which culminates in the prototype Iron Man; and the second, more traditional one in New York, which finally gives us the real deal. The film doesn’t even have a real villain until Stark returns home. That is when the plot turns more into a typical superhero film up until the last scene, which still feels legendary awesome.
Despite being the first movie of the by now legendary MCU, Iron Man feels a lot more like a typical Noughties superhero flick than an MCU film from the 2010s. It's strange to think that Iron Man came out the year after the dreary Spider-Man 3 and the same year as the stellar The Dark Knight. 2008 marked the turning point for superhero films: they went dark and realistic in the vein of Nolan's trilogy or light-hearted and bombastic according to Disney's vision. In terms of the humour, small nods and beautiful action sequences that are typical for later MCU films, Iron Man isn't quite there yet. It is grounded in the reality of a lot 9/11 world however, making audiences feel connections between the film world and the real world. There's so much gold stuff going on before the end that the climax feels almost disappointingly simple.
What is striking about Iron Man when watching it again 12 years after its premiere is how Robert Downy Jr immediately captures the character like it was written for him all along. He's sassy, over-confident and not immediately likeable. Nevertheless, what makes him tick is his intelligence and cold, hard logic that drives him forward even in dire situations. Besides, he is a brilliant businessman and a good-hearted man. It also feels weird seeing Terrence Howard as Rhodes, when the part is so strongly associated with Don Cheadle these days; it's like Howard doesn't quite understand the part and plays him all wrong. Jeff Bridges and director Jon Favreau complete the great cast, with Bridges taking in the role of the sidelined mentor and Favreau embracing the comic relief part. Bridges is great as usual, even if he's never really allowed to reach out properly until the end, after which he steals the show. Gwyneth Paltrow is somewhat shallow as Pepper Potts, a part that admittedly doesn’t stand out until the third Iron Man film. I also feel that Paul Bettany is always forgotten despite his iconic voicing role of Stark’s trusty servant Jarvis. He definitely should receive more credit.
The visual style introduced in Iron Man stays more or less constant throughout later MCU films and the production values hold up admirably. I love it how the cinematography and editing are dynamic but not overly shaky and there’s a fine mix of practical and visual effects.
Robert Downy Jr drives this film forward with his incredible take on Tony Stark, as does the lighthearted but fully serious take on the source material. Comic book fans and Iron Man fanboys and -girls will most likely find loads of small reference to enjoy here.
Iron Man remains a very fresh and untraditional origin story. It's character-driven, with a grounded story and an unusual hero and villain characteristic.
All these years later, Iron Man isn't the most exciting or groundbreaking if the MCU films, but it is the one most grounded in reality. A lack of a compelling villain is what makes this film slightly weaker from many other superhero films, but the great cast and the realistic touch to super-heroics weigh that up.

This movie started a passion for me, I use to read the Marvel Comics and when this movie released I was mind blown as it was perfect. I'm sure I don't need to say it, but RDJ is perfect as Iron Man and the movie is now timeless as the CGI still holds up perfectly and set up the MCU perfectly. Jon Favreau is the perfect director for this film as he had fresh visions for superhero films and he set up everything perfectly.
The only downsides in this film was Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), who I always find her extremely annoying and I only started to like her in more of the recent films. Also, the villain played by Jeff Bridges (Obadiah Stane) is a little generic, but it is still fine for the movie. This movie is truly groundbreaking and the perfect film to start off anyone's passion for superheroes.
I never watched the Iron man movies when I was younger l, so I didn't know much about iron man. But thorough this movie I was able to see how iron man became iron man and I thought he had a really cool back story. Stark is a cool character and I'm excited to see him in more films. I'm going to try to freshen my memory this week by watching the older marvel films. This is my first movie out of ???? movies. Finished this at 9:09PM. Fun movie, and I'm excited to see more.

Iron Man will forever be remembered as a film that changed cinema witch is so weird to me having re-watched it recently. This is a rather slow and somewhat cliché 2000′s action flick with a paper-thin plot. Robert Downey Jr. and Jeff Bridges both give it their all and I have nothing but respect for Jon Favreau for turning RDJ’s mad ramblings into a coherent film.
[Pre-Endgame MCU Rewatch] This is just a fantastic movie from start to finish. Robert Downey Jr. absolutely nails it as Tony Stark. The origin story works and does not bore you like others sometimes do. Jeff Bridges is entertaining and convincing. Great start of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
Good switch to Cheadle for Rhodey. Terrence Howard has this evil factor to him that I couldn’t seperate.
It all began with this film, more than 10 years ago. And I can tell you convincingly that it is worth watching! This is a superhero film as it should be: about the egocentric and narcissistic Tony Stark who becomes an iron (or metal) hero, but doesn't lose his ego. A superhero classic, without a doubt!
Did you know by the way, that director Jon Favreau also took on the role of Happy Hogan? The driver and assistant, who leads the way! Funny, innit?
The funny thing about me and superhero movies is that I have to pysche myself up to watch them. I'm not quite sure why that is. My guess is that the story tends to suffer at the expense of CGI and I always prefer the former to the latter. Anyway, I thought I would give this a chance because of the 93% favorable ratings at rottentomatoes.com and it stars Robert Downey Jr. Why couldn't this guy have stayed off of the drugs in his 30's? I think he might be the best actor of our time. For this genre the story was about as good as any that I have seen. The final battle scene (I'm not giving anything away here - after all, there is ALWAYS a final battle scene) was a bit of a disappointment and you can see a sequel coming but overall the movie was as good as any others in this genre.

I can't understand how this movie go so many good ratings! This is a Meh at best! The story was mediocre and the attitude of "Click, click, it's done!" and "Initiating the hack" kind of scenes makes for a so not well thought of movie! For kids, maybe, this movie was awesome, it's got a superhero. But for me, someone who cares for the details of the story! I found this movie largely incomplete!
This movie is pretty simple not trying to do to much and it works. RDJ just has the charisma to carry a movie and does it here. Jeff Bridges playing and villain is fun to see, I will always see him as the dude. The CGI is still pretty good. The action is fun. The AC/DC music is a blast. Overall just a fun popcorn movie and the start of something big.
It's crazy to think this is 10 years old and the start of the juggernaut the MCU is now. I'm rewatching all the MCU before Infinity War not only to get a refresher on everything but to appreciate how far we have come.

Iron Man is already 10 years old and I honestly cannot believe it. Who thought back then that a movie like this can turn into such a hit and start a Cinematic Universe.
Iron Man is just the origin story of the hero retooled to fit in 2008. The thing about the movie, watching it now as a grown-up is that I can see much more than i initially did back when it first came out. Back then it was all about the effects and the superheroic stuff going on. Looking at it now I can see that there is a deeper meaning and messeges.
When walking into a superhero movie one expects to see groundbreaking and top-notch special effects. The CG used in Iron Man was amazing 10 years ago and I honestly say that those effects still hold up to this day. Yes, they dont look as good as 2017 CG effects but, on the other hand, they've aged better than many other movies'.
After so many great superhero flicks people still think that there is almost no or even any characterization in them. This is totally wrong - Iron Man shines with a cast of amazing characters with solid enough background that is built upon. The main characters have solid arcs that allow them to grow and develop new personality traits in front of the audience. Especially Tony Stark/Iron Man who, of course, is the focus of the movie. You see what changes him and how exactly.
The main villain in the movie is as solid as the protagonist and is still one of the best that the MCU has offered thus far. He is not simply a megalomaniac with a desire to conquer the world. He just wants one thing and that is all he tries to get. And the performance behind him supports this image of a man focused on his target.
If you ask me "What makes a superhero movie great?" my answer will be "Take the superhero element away, if you still have a story that can work out on its own - you have a solid movie!". And Iron Man can definitely shine without its armour. Why? Well it is simple - it is the story of a man who is betrayed and who, through said betrayal, finds himself on the other side and sees how he affects the lifes of others who are not close to him. The whole "knight in a shining armour" thing can be scrapped and the movie will be just as solid with a few tweaks here and there.
And yes, the movie is the inception of a Cinematic Universe - something towards all major Hollywood studios are aiming right now, but certainly cannot recapture. The thing is taht with Iron Man Marvel Studios did not put unnecessary world building elements in the movie save for one small post credit scene that started the whole craze. That's it. Nothing more.
Well, in just a few words this is why I consider Iron Man not just a great but a brilliant superhero movie and give it a 9/10.
The early Marvel movies are so much better than the follow ups who put to much emphasis on beeing cool and over the top CGI. This feels so much more like being in the real world we live in althought it is fiction.
Iron Man is still one of my favorite superhero movies to date.

The origin story to the Iron Man is well written and perfectly executed. There are just the right amount of laugh , action , heart wrecking moments and pure genious.
Everything is made with the right amount of real and fantastic. I see genious in Tony. Also sarcasm , big heart and believe.

Iron Man is a special effects extravaganza offering a thrill ride especially when he goes into battle mode, and without a doubt, Robert Downey Jr probably should be credited for raising the profile of this once Tier-B character, to perhaps becoming more recognizable now, and obviously, expanding the fan base of this weaponry filled suit of metal, which of course, in this origin movie, we were only given a glimpse of its potential.
A Marvel adaption that I didn't like very much... Batman Begins, X-Men or Superman Returns are much better comic adaptations IMHO!
