This list is a combination of two lists: the best Russian films of 1908 to 1957 and 1958 to 2000. There immediately was a grave discussion on [what films should be considered Russian and what not. The resulting list has been chosen by the Russian Guild of Film Critics.

Every February I try to watch as many non English language films as I can.
The Nika Award is the main annual national film award in Russia, presented by the Russian Academy of Cinema Arts and Science, and seen as the national equivalent of the Oscars.
