Not at all as bad as people are trying to claim. The worst part is probably just Afflecks accent dipping in and out. Besides that, the story is a little bloated; trying to fit all this story in makes it come off as a little episodic rather than filmic. If anything the screenplay or editing just needed some tightening. Otherwise, it's an entertaining period gangster flick, with some beautiful imagery.
i wanted to give this movie a better rating, but story is boring, there is no character development and acting was just bad. really bad.
if you love prohibition era and all mafia stuff, run away from this movie.
Not entirely disposable, but after a run of fine directorial efforts by Affleck, this is more than a little disappointing. The occasional good moment is undermined by long, dull stretches and a weak narrative. Live by night, sleep by day!
Not the best in genre, but I enjoyed every minute of it.
Live by Night has garnered its share of criticism, but I personally don't understand. Perhaps one needs to be a fan of gangster movies to fully appreciate it. I found the film to be intriguing and highly entertaining. The movie's storyline, set during the prohibition era, immerses you in a world of crime and power struggles. As a fan of gangster films, I was captivated by the gritty atmosphere and complex characters. While opinions may vary, I found this to be an interesting and exciting watch.
Nope, I don't get the hate(again!). I quite enjoyed the film.
Great potential but the movie disappointed me. Slow and without ant spark.
such a slow and boring movie.
Might really only be interesting if you are interested in the 20-30s in that area of Florida.
I think Affleck did to much in writing, directing and playing the lead. It all seems to be missing the spark to get it off the ground.
Maybe if you're American, you care about this part of history and perhaps it's interesting for you.... but for the average European this movie is boring and uninteresting.
Worst Oirish accent since Cruise and Kidman in Far & Away. Clearly lots of people wanted this film to be good. Sadly it isn't.
An epic saga that goes nowhere and doesn't even have the decency to be based on a true story.

To be honest, the book was already boring to begin with, and the movie really didn't help. There is so much potential here, but it's executed in such a dull way, you don't even care what happens to anyone. Could have been so much better, I wish it was so much better, but this is the kind of movie you've already forgotten about after finishing it.
