Not the best Borowczyk film, but not terrible. The strange story, and flat acting, make this play out like a dream. Why does the Asian guy talk like a chipmunk? Anyway, we have two characters - their names are not important, i'll just call them Creep, and Red Flag - Creep is on a train, and sits by Red Flag, like way too close, and is being... you guessed it, a creep. Red Flag gets off the train before Creep can follow, however he manages to find her at the next stop. They start a conversation from across the platform, and my fear was that this was going to be the entire movie, but this is Walerian we are talking about, so sex has to happen at some point. Sure enough, Creep goes over to where she is and he gets handsy. They go to a church, and he gets more handsy. They go to Red Flag's home, and this is where it becomes very Borowczyk. At this point, the story goes from a pretentious art film to the type of erotica Sade wrote - only without the deep philosophy. The clothes come off, there's some light bondage, feet, oral, intercourse. Then, Red Flag gets a phone call, and precedes to lose her mind. Like a proto Catherine Tramell, only instead of an ice pick, she puts claws on her fingertips, and scratches Creep bloody. He leaves her house in a daze. A few minutes later, he witnesses a woman kill herself, and because he is near her body, he is arrested. The end. I really like Walerian, but i think he operates better with period pieces, aided by the fact that his movies look ten years older than they actually are, thanks to the lighting and cinematography. I think the weak parts of the film are: the writing, weird moments in the second act, and not being graphic with the violence enough to make the situation believable.
