  1. Spider-Man: No Way Home was an incredible surprise this year, and launched itself into my list of all-time favorites.
  2. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a refreshing origin story with insane respect for the art of fighting.
  3. The Suicide Squad was an unexpected gem thanks to its cast, sense of humor, and lack of restraint.
  4. Encanto does what Disney does well, well thought out family stories, beautiful animation, and Lin Manuel Miranda’s music.
  5. Ron’s Gone Wrong makes me wish I was in the writer’s room to see how it came together. You can’t help but laugh.
  6. Ghostbusters: Afterlife made me want to go back and see the original for the first time, which is no small feat.
  7. Cruella did more than I thought a villain’s origin film would, and had some clever moments I think back on fondly.
  8. Raya and the Last Dragon introduced me to a world and story I want to see more of.
  9. A Quiet Place: Part II continued what made the first movie special without losing focus, and I walked away glad it existed.
  10. Red Notice put together a cast I never knew I wanted in the best scenarios possible. Perfect blend of fun and action.
  11. Last Night in Soho was an experience I was not prepared for, yet intrigued and surprised me the whole way through.
  12. Luca continues my love for Pixar films, and formed some cute bonds with characters that made me root for them.
  13. Free Guy is proof we should let Ryan Reynolds do whatever he wants, because this was video games done right.
  14. Copshop was the shootout movie I needed without ruining the genre. Even if you figure it out, you’ll still have fun doing it.
  15. Worth lives up to Spotlight’s legacy, and examines the painful question someone eventually had to answer.
  16. The College Admissions Scandal took an already shocking story and recreated it with transcripts to drive the point home.
  17. The Last Duel used the three-act structure to play with perspectives, and was more enjoyable than I thought it would be.
