Just saw this at MIFF. Amazing, thought-provoking movie with great effo, and atmosphere. Quite entrancing and engrossing.
Clearly, this film is polarizing. Some reviewers loved it; others, not so much. I reccomed this film. The entirety of it is not great art, but the subtext of the movie is facinating and we'll worth the time it takes to watch the film.
It's amazing (however not surprising) how many good sci-fi movies have been made outside Hollywood, without big budgets, heavy CGI use, car-chasing and explosions.
Interesting concept. Although not exactly new, I liked the storytelling's way of getting us inside Ren's skin, to understand why she would make such dangerous choices for someone as smart as her. It's not without flaws but I've found myself enjoying it more than similar stories, like the "Playtest" episode of "Black Mirror".
Decent idea and story about what may lie in store for the mind in the future. Great to watch something that keeps you guessing, however - that her hair hadn't grown in a year? That sort of gave away the surprise. And the showdown at the end was great!
A bit predictable (very much so in the final act!) but full of great concepts. Solid acting, decent script - totally worth a evening of your time if you love science fiction!
This idea was used in Outer Limits. Albeit it is a different delivery method but not original at all.
This tedious technobabble is not worth your time. Should have been deleted at conception.
d'you maybe think if the writer had gone: "i will rewrite tonight. it's just bad script, i can fix it." it could have been better?
The whole aspect of using this for incarnation wasn't thought out at all. No one is getting rehabilitated by being "locked" in solitary confinement. What is the point to going through multiple life sentences in a matter of minutes? Society isn't protected from a dangerous person, the offender is barely inconvenienced, and assuming they're in solitary they aren't rehabilitated either.
so is this movie about DMT??
I really liked the story and how it brought forth so many other possible implications of how the tech could be used and misused as well as what could happen if the coding happened to be buggy or become corrupted. It brought to mind how it could lead to a 'man vs. machine' world like "The Terminator" concept, or even something like "The Matrix" in a drop of H2O and nanotech, again with the 'man vs. machine' idea or the positive aspects of immediate implementations of knowledge and experience to allow people to be proficient at nearly any human-possible task, profession, etc., not to mention what nanotech, in general, could do in medical applications, but all those concepts have been done in other films. The writers of this movie did a great job keeping those other, yet unrelated ideas out of this story, focusing on the people in the story, their interaction, and the how they deal with the situations and resulting pressures of releasing a first product, which is almost always a make-or-break deal, FDA pressure and the stringent guidelines and restrictions that must be followed for their approval, as well as the pressures from the government to use the tech in controversial applications, only one of which was represented in this film; again, the result of the writers staying on topic.
With all that said, I enjoyed the movie, though I thought it was a little long and could have moved along at a better pace, though it didn't seem half as long as it took to write, or probably read this long-winded comment. -- Worth watching, especially if you like thought-provoking concepts with a hint of biotech on the side. If you read this before watching the film, you'll probably still think, "huh?!?" even after the movie. Sorry about that.

I can see why some people would not like this movie, but the creativity and execution were spot on in my opinion. Also, the artistic flare in this film was just the right touch. It is often very difficult for me to give a 10 to a movie, but this one was super easy. This movie was not lazy and I like that. It stands out as an intriguing tribute to excellent film making among the endless movies designed to be mindless filler for the masses. LOVED IT!
