There are two main problems for me: There is very little plot and the music/sound annoys the crap out of me. It’s just not very engaging and I don’t understand what something like this is doing in the IMDb top 250.

Lovely, beautiful filmmaking, if not as transcendent as I would hope. I knew going into it that this was the Apu trilogy, and I think I kept expecting Apu to play a larger role. It felt as though we were meant to see the film through his eyes, but that didn’t always come through. This is one I want to watch again with different expectations.
