Patriots Day 2016

Exceptionally well made movie, that stands as a huge testament to the power of the human spirit. I knew little of the true story beforehand, but having seen the film, I am both moved and saddened by the events that took place.

I do NOT understand the hate for this movie. Technically very well done and except for a few moments of not all that good acting, the movie works very well. It also succeeds in what I think it was made for...It relays the horror and heroism of that day, and the days that followed, brilliantly.

If you have a chance, pick this one up and watch it...

Not knowing all the facts about the bombing and what took place afterwards for me it was the perfect built of tense and unknown variables that even the long duration it was perfectly paced and well crafted. I thorough enjoyed it.

Hollywood’s desire to make films dramatising terrorist events will never be quenched and here the spotlight turns to the Boston Marathon bombings of 2013.

Although one might question the value of such a film in the first place, Patriot’s Day is nonetheless a gripping retelling of the events. The screenplay really takes off after the explosions - Berg constructs an excellent cat and mouse chase as the police dragnet closes in on the suspects.

The decision to centre the plot on Mark Wahlberg’s fictional police officer is a little iffy. On the one hand it makes sense to tie it all together, on the other hand why couldn’t they just tell it as it actually happened? Perhaps the need for a big name actor on the poster was too great.

There’s no lack of big names though. John Goodman, Kevin Bacon and J.K. Simmons all turn in stellar performances, each representing a different branch of law enforcement.

Patriot’s Day isn’t particularly original or insightful but it’s far from the sickly and overly patriotic shlockfest one might expect.

How to rate a movie like this that depicts the tragic events in Boston?
This isn´t a bad movie but I also don´t think it is a great one. It does tell the story of what happened. It´s not overdramatized which I liked very much. Yes, it has a kind of documentary touch to it which, again, I liked. I had no problem with Wahlbergs character beeing fictional, to be honest I thought he was true, so that wasn´t an issue.
But in contrast to Deepwater Horizon this movie didn´t reach me emotionally. Deepwater really hit me hard. This sadly had more of the effect of a documentary.

Cannot fault this film at all so moving

Good film. Good cast. RIP to all that lost their lives in the real event.

I can't fault the movie, top shelf acting and production quality. I also can't say I enjoyed it... once the catastrophe strikes, instant waterworks. For the rest of the gut-wrenching movie, if I wasn't crying, I was about to. Knowing that it actually occurred makes it difficult to watch, regardless of the quality. Had I known the effect it would have, I would've waited for it to be available for streaming. I wasn't alone though as the theatre was definitely a crying-zone.

Honestly well made and heartfelt movie that really pulls you into the Boston Marathon Attack. Mark Wahlberg pulls off his character as a true Bostonian & Police Officer.

I really enjoyed this movie and felt for the people.

This movie was amazing to see when Terrorist's attacked The Boston Marathon,I still remember when it was on TV when it happened and knew it was a Muslim Terrorist attack even before the pictures were released of those two scumbags, Mark Wahlberg and John Goodman played amazing roles in the Movie.
My Heart's and Prayers to all those affected by these low lifes in Boston ...

Peter Berg delivers a very respectful and loyal telling of the Boston Bombing story without adding all the unnecessary Hollywood drama. Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman and Kevin Bacon are in this film but they don't need to be over the top with their performances. These people feel real because they are real. Peter Berg tells the story from many different points of view in a very emotional way. Patriots Day is one of those films that gives you pride in humanity. It doesn't even matter if you're American or not.

Terrific movie. My respect for the Police and the people of Boston increased by many-folds. I am truly amazed by how FBI and Police took this "personally" and acted so fast in the case. Remarkable! :)
And regarding the fictional character, I don't see a problem. While the real characters emulate what actually happ, we need another character to narrate/explain what's going on. That's exactly what Saunders character is. Apparently, he is not given any pivotal importance such as "single-handedly" nailing down the terrorist. So it is all good.

And all along it was the CIA themselves that did the bombings for their own agendas which would have our rights removed from us because we want to be more "protected" from these terror attacks so they can take our guns away and cite "now you are safe"... bwahahaha they are fools. I hope more people are awake now!

A good raw action film of the Boston Marathon Bombing as it follows one of the main cops that was at the scene and helped tremendously with the investigation and arrest that only too a few days. Other than the lack of character background of Tommy in the beginning as well as other main characters, the plot development was decent, but this film was not meant to be about the background of why it happened but an action film about the chasing down of the 2 bombers which makes for a great heroic and entertaining film about the Boston force.

Patriots Day is an excellent movie that is based on a true story. The film provides a good recount of the events surrounding the Boston Marathon bombing and subsequent manhunt, with great attention to detail. The acting is exceptional, with Mark Wahlberg leading a talented cast. The movie is filled with plenty of suspense and action, making it a thrilling watch from start to finish.

I am reading "Technically very well done". I watched it on Amazon and I am thinking I watched a different version.

It felt like a straight to DVD movie. Lighting quality similar to telenovelas. The first 5 minutes especially. It felt like an NBC dude said, show that NBC did it and not Hollywood and they all high fives and removed expensive cameras and lighting. Horrible.

Acting was good except Wahlberg went to far with the angry Boston beat cop for no reason.

I enjoyed the move nevertheless and yeah, waterworks (the cop who did the salute.... Uff...). It is like a typical discovery reenactment with low budget and surprisingly good actors.

Another tragedy type film by Peter Berg which you start to see often now, but Mark Wahlberg was phenomenal in this movie, especially towards the end.

This movie was heavy, Very intense and emotional!! Loved the message behind it and those guys were not Muslims. Because no Muslim can harm another human being and call himself muslim. Just sad i swear! Very dangerous world. Love is the weapon.

Surprisingly Moving

I saw this movie at a preview showing and was very pleasantly surprised.

The movie is great, the cast are uniformly excellent, and the plot moves along really nicely. I was mesmerized throughout, the pacing was excellent and, even though we all remember the outcome from the extensive news coverage, I was surprised at some of the things that happened before the end.

It was surprisingly moving at a few points, sorry, no spoilers so I won't say any more.

Great job to everyone who worked on this movie.

Rest in Peace

Recreation of the Boston marathon attacks. Bostón is strong and the answer is love, but the war continues.

No surprises or insight here. Peter Berg has been so careful to treat the event with such reverence that he's forgotten to make a good feature film.

A documentary, nothing more and nothing less.

8.0/10 A movie full of tense and well made :)

I just kept thinking what if every city bombing would get a Berg/Whalberg Hollywood movie.

Good piece. Well paced, believable and emotional. The 2 Bergs make a great team.

A wonderful movie. the movie depicted the entire scene of act without spoiling it.

Intense and moving portrayal of this real event that shook a city. Once again Berg does a masterful job of telling this true story and injecting it with humanity. As the title suggests, it's a very patriotic movie.

Wow very good movie!! Is not just about the US or any other country.. its about innocent people who lost their lives, family and friends.. nice screenplay.. not so much of action but showed spoils of terrorism..

Pros: Usage of real footage and attention to detail. Cons: The American compulsion to insert a fictional character so that the film can have a "hero". Would've loved to have seen Paul Greengrass (United 93) direct this...

Dull and boring, since you already know the recent story from the news, it's hard to build any kind of tension. Though the performances were good, the film illustrates the story as well as any TV investigative report.

An OK film from the human perspective, which shows how far Hollywood has come in its xenophobia - however, the last bit really left me with a bad taste in my mouth considering how the USA, under Obama, has become the biggest terroristic bomber ever, much due to the way the US uses drone attacks to murder non-Americans. Still, an OK movie.

Awesome depiction of what it means to be an American bc 9/11 was a tragic day but it doesn't count bc our CIA killed those in NY. #BostonStrong
