I didn't expect much out of the movie. However, I left with a pleasant experience. The intro was pretty intense, though the character development only goes so far; with you getting a slight glimpse into the lives of each Power Ranger. But, that's fine. I was okay with what i got. Surprisingly, the humor in it was pretty good also. Visuals were fun, and I thought Elizabeth Banks did a good job .. as well as Bill Hader and Bryan Cranston.
Buying this movie was of course pretty much a request from my kids although I have to confess that I, as a Science Fiction geek, was at least a tiny bit interested in seeing what they had managed to cook together on a big budget. For the record I find the television show absolutely awful. Therefore I am quite surprised that I found the movie to be not exactly good but at least watchable.
Make no mistake, it is indeed a silly and simple plot, teenage wet dream, stupid and illogical kind of story that you would expect. However, it was actually mildly fun to watch. Most of my enjoyment came from the special effects and action sequences of course. The dialog and behavior of the teenage heroes were as stereotyped and generally awful as one would expect.
This of course means that the first half of the movie is less interesting than the second half when the action picks up. Actually, although there are some fun moments during “training”, I felt this entire idea of them not being able to use their powers before they had gotten into the right “mental state” to prove that they were actually Power Rangers was just a rubbish one.
Once things started to pick up speed it became more interesting. The different means of transport of the Power Rangers was absolutely silly but still great fun to watch.
Well, I really do not have that much more to say. The last parts of the movie was one big special effects feast with a few comic elements in it, most of them rather … teenage. Fun to watch for a science fiction geek like me.
So, the verdict? Was it a fun movie to watch? Yeah, it was pretty okay. Was it a good movie? Well, that is probably stretching it.
I really wanted to love the movie, a modern Power Rangers, but it was hard to pull off.
It's not a bad movie but you can only modernize it so much since it was still stuck in Angel Grove. Elizabeth Banksdid a fantastic job playing her character with attitude. The back story took a little too long and I wanted more from the Power Rangers themselves.
If your a fan of the show it will only bring back good memories, its like your on a fun ride and you will enjoy it.
Couldn't believe what I was watching for the first 80% of the movie - character development, cool actors, good acting... then 15 minutes or so of what I remembered power rangers to be. Not holding the last 15 minutes against it too much, it was a good movie.
First, they should have kept more of the original music.
The suits look cool. Too bad you only see them for 3 minutes. You could say the same thing of the Zords, but only if you saw ads picture because you never have even one clean shot of them in the movie. That's really stupid. It could have been nice to keep the cheesy style of the show, but if you go for modern super cool looking, at least show it, otherwise there's no point.
Elizabeth Banks is pretty good as Rita. Except her (small) tirade when she's losing, that made no sense, what the fuck is she even saying ?
Bryan Cranston as Zordon, it's nice that he did that, as he was a voice on the show and the blue ranger was actually named after him.
How much did Krispy Kreme paid to be advertized on this ? That's way to much for product placement !
Kinda strange to have the intro with previous era rangers be 65 millions years ago. Just to justify the Dino Zords I guess. But then, nobody else came for the crystal in all this time ? The spaceship, Alpha, the Zords, everything is still working ? The name Rita was already popular 65 mya ? And the 5 new Rangers happened to be in this really abandonned place on the middle of nowhere, on the same day that Rita is randomly fished out of the sea. Wow, that's precision.
And by the way, the coins are supposed to find worthy people ? Yeah, well they just took the first thing available. The first group of five losers that happened to pass by in this remote place. Well the others are just loners, but Jason and Kim are stupid assholes. I mean it's not even that what Kim did was that bad, it's the fact that she didn't even realize it was bad: either she's very very stupid or her moral compass is way fucked up. Either way, not a great choice for saving the world.
And you can immediately see they're not worthy. Litterally two minutes after getting the coins they act really really stupid and get killed while probably hurting a lot of people on the train too. That should have been a sign. But no, they just wake up in their bed in the morning. Which is never explained by the way. Let's say they had become string enough to survive an impact with a train without a scratch, how did they get home ? Each one in his own bed. There is nothing in the whole movie that can explain that!
One good point of the movie is the way they have powers even without the suits. The kids discovering their super powers trope has been done thousands of times but it's funny. The everyday life and background was nice to have. The character development was worth it. Though they're supposed to not reveal their identity, they're not really discreet about it.
The whole we have to be best buddies to get our armour was really really bad though. It's stupid, and even if I liked the background stories of the character, we need to wait 1h30 before they can morph ! On a 2h movie that was a really bad choice. Specially when it's made longer by creating artificial hostility. Like why would Jason go and punch Zack for that during the training ?
So here comes Rita. Just appearing in Trini's house. Apparently she can know there are Rangers, who they are, where they live, what their past is and even stuff they discussed in private conversation. Wow. maybe she's the one who sent them to their bed in the first place then ? She even knows that Billy knows where the crystal is. But not where it is. Strange.
By the way same goes for him. How did he find out ? And why does he stupidly wander around in the middle of the street looking at his map when he already found out the exact spot on his map at home ?
First encounter, Rita just owns them. Normal. But they should already have the suit at this time to test drive their power before the final fight. And with her assured victory, she just kills Billy (that drowns in like 15 seconds whereas they were swimming underwater for minutes to find the base) and... immediately free the others. Not killing them, not even leaving them prisonners for 30 seconds... OK, that was not a smart move.
Finally, 1h30 into, they get their suits. The morphing scene just sucks. It's good that they trained so hard because they immediately get into an underwater fight, that they totally didn't train for, and rock it. Little fight, nit great but ok. The only 3 minutes we see the suits.
Here Goldar is a giant monster/robot made of free flowing gold. Yeah, why not. Didn't hav any time left anyway. Also if there were enough gold left in this mine to make a 40m giant, why did they even close it ?
They get the Zords and apparently no training was required to operate extremely advanced war machines, but let's leave a free pass on this one. Like I saud, they seem really cool, but you can't even see them. Then it's normal for the show, they get their ass kicked, make a MagaZord and win. But would it have been too much to ask for a 5 seconds clip of Zordon telling them to push the button to create the MegaZord ? No, it just happens. They lost, they are falling and dying and pouf, they all magically combine, erasing all traces of dammage by the way. And Rita goes totally crazy, like wtf is happening. Why is she even surprised ? Wasn't she a Ranger before ?
She finally gets bitch slapped into space. Well that was ridiculous. First there's no way the MegaZord is powerful enough for that (I'd love to see the calculation). Then that was not a heroic thing to do. And definitely not a smart one. She should have been taken prisonner and brought to Zordon.
Nice cameo of the original Kimberly and Tommy at the end. Had to check it was him, but definitely recognized her. Nice hint at Tommy too in the post credits. Though I don't think there will be a second one.

This is the first comment that i made on this site. This movie was such a suprise for me that i actually had to do it.
Power Rangers took me by suprise. I expected something dull and straight bad, instead i got an actually good movie which took me right back to my childhood when i was in love with the show. It got me intrested and happy. This is a well made Power Rangers movie.
Let me say that again. This is WELL MADE POWER RANGERS MOVIE. IM ACTUALLY HAPPY THAT I WATCHED IT.
If you're thinking about watching it then just go and do just that. Movie's worth it.
I wasn't expecting much out of this movie. However I feel like it really delivered. I don't remember much from the original series to be fair. Only that I loved it as a kid. Sure the dialog was a little iffy but we are talking about teenagers who save the world so I guess this would be geared towards that age group. Honestly this goes under the category of "haters going to hate. And I loved it." I really hope they make another one I feel like this franchise could go far potentially.
The dialogue is flat, the plotting random, really bad acting. Nothing was believable to me.

This movie could have been way better than it was. For starters, the movie looked like it was made from television. The plot and subject matter overall was ok, but it too WAY too late now to build up to the climax of the movie (like an hour and half way too long). This movie had a lot of potential to be good, but it just didn't deliver. I'm kind of disappointed.

I was very excited for this movie to come out, and I must say, it met all my expectations. I enjoyed it soooo much! Let me start off with one thing that really stood out for me. That was the camerawork. Absolutely brilliant if you ask me. From the beginning where they filmed from the backseat of Jason his car to the very end. It was truly great.
I never saw or knew anything about the Power Rangers except for their suits so I'm writing this without knowing the old ones. I think this is a great way to introduce us to the Power Rangers and get to know them on a kind of personal level. Also, it's very fun to see how they got there. To see that "superhero's" aren't always flawless and all that. They had struggles and I thought it was pretty cool that we saw those struggles and we saw how they handled them. However, I do feel like the part before they start fighting for real is kinda long. I wouldn't have minded if they cut that a bit shorter. I love the diversity of the characters and the actors. They are all strong individuals but do work amazingly well together. I don't think the characters really grew throughout the movie, but I get that because we were just introduced to them. That is something I really like to see in the second movie though if there is ever going to be one.
The animations were great, I loved the camerawork. The storyline, although a bit slow, real great (also as an introduction to the Power Rangers) and the characters are amazing. (great casting!) I really recommend this movie, you won't regret it.

Let's clear somethings first: cheesiness and questionable acting are essentially trademarks of the Super Sentai franchise and it's American descendant. You can't have Power Rangers without it.
This movie however, while produced by Saban like the original series, has very little of the feel of the original, even if those two traits remain. First, the characters might share the same name with their previous counterparts but couldn't be more different, with each offering an edgy bite to the stereotype they represent. Thanks to that, and the whole detention setting, their relationship gives a fair nod to The Breakfast Club, which I thought was awesome. In fact, there was another nods to a popular 80's movie with the the whole cave exploration and finding a secret lake, clearly taking a bit from The Goonies, which, like the Breakfast Club, was raging around the time the concept of super sentais came about.
The plot, as expected from PR, is simple and barely passable, but still tolerable, when you consider the targeted audience, which I don't think were the those who watched the original show at all - and I think bringing new and younger audiences into the franchise is a big part of the reason behind the new super shiny and cool visuals (which I wholeheartedly approve - for the most part, as I'm still not sure about the new Megazord, or even the smaller zords, as their shapes were hard to discern and the metallic colors sort of muddled together when combined). I also think that the interest in new audiences changed the dynamic of the group - in both versions you have the super cheesy "circle of friendship" thing, but where the MMPR were idealists in saving their city, this group leaned more towards a selfish side, that I think is easier for our current youth to identify with in our culture.
I did love all the small references to 80's and 90's kids shows and movies, and both the Japanese and American franchises. It felt like really cool easter eggs, and I kept pausing to text an old friend to confirm if the movie really was referencing this or that (he was watching at the same time in his own house, and it turned into a really long conversation about decoding everything!).
I think I could honestly recommend this movie to both children and adults who were/are fans of MMPR. It wasn't perfect, but it was quite cool, and it was very essential Power Rangers, in the good and the bad.
I was never fan of the original series, i found it extremely bad tasted and cheesy as hell, totally out of my era. The movie was felt almost the same, it is outdated and should remain in the past with no follow ups.

In this movie you follow a cheap Zack Efron knock-off and his group of stereotypes on a quest of cheesiness... The entire movie felt like a bad Nickelodeon movie with a somewhat higher production cost. Everything felt forced and seemed too coincidental to be believable. For example: the robot waited 62 million years for the new power rangers to arive and exactly on that day Rita Repulsa came back. Also the given names were cringeworthy. Rita Repulsa and her army of Putties.... come on. Would not recommend if you expect something good. I cannot believe they got Brian Cranston and Elizabeth Banks to star in this movie. The worst thing is that I'm marginally positive about a lot of films but this was just hard to watch.

Got dragged to this by my friends, wasn't my thing really. However was better than I thought it would be. It actually had a backstory and a plot that made sense.
Why? How? The TV show was bad, but still much better than this. At least that had power rangers in it.

I actually laughed in some scenes and enjoyed the lack of exaggerated moves.
And it was nice to see the originals pink and green rangers doing a cameo

The draw to this movie was Naomi Scott. The resistance to this movie was POWER RANGERS. Naomi’s charisma won. It was better than I expected. We could see more of each ranger in armour so their actions weren’t reduced to overly dramatic pantomime. There was some character development. I give this movie a 6 (fair) out of 10. I was a massive massive fan of the original, the first Power Rangers t.v show a very very long time ago so I really wasn't expecting much from this remake

i actually bloody loved.
I was really surprised how much fun I had with this and
the fact it wasn't Woke Garbage, virtual signalling rubbish like I thought it would be was a lovely
surprise. What really helped me enjoy it from the get go was we had princess Jasmine from Aladdin and Liu kang from mortal kombat 2021, and with the actress who played princess Jasmine who I absolutely loved playing my favourite pink Ranger was an instant love for me. Billy was my favourite I thought he was Awesome and
i definitely thought he was the best part of the hole movie, he stole every scene, when he wiggled it out at the end I died. This was a lot of fun and I thought they did the tv show justice and payed homage in all the right places and it definitely transported me back to my childhood in a fun and loving manner.
X FINAL THOUGHT:
The special effects we're great and I loved the revamped power Rangers theme song so much.
This movie is so much fun and super entertaining
and a damb good time
with laughs in all the right places

If you're expecting a complex storyline and award winning performances, you're expecting the wrong things. This reboot is far from such and it's meant to be that way--playful, fun, and does exactly what it's supposed to. So sit back and enjoy reminiscing your childhood.
I can compare this movie to “The Barney’s Show”… terrible
7.5/10 - Likely not something for Power Rangers fans but I enjoyed the classical teen high-school "drama" part/story. I think the scene where Jason stood up against the bully during detention was my favorite one. The teen characters are diverse and interesting (each in their own unique way) and I enjoyed watching them bond as a team.
The robot AI at the spaceship was also fun.
Now to the negative parts. The Power Rangers scenes felt pretty boring comparted to how good they could/should have been. The CGI felt pretty basic (did they have a low budget?), the designs weren't that great (many elements looked like plastic which made their armors and zerks(?) feel like toys, and even the directing felt lacking during the final 30 minutes (weird songs/soundtracks, bad/silly acting, and everything suddenly seemed to target children while previous parts where focused on teenagers). And obviously there where few Power Rangers scenes.
The Bumblebee joke was a bit funny but it was kinda on them when they brought the Pacific Rim version of Optimus Prime to the screen... :D
Anyway, as long as one doesn't expect this to be focused on Power Rangers and likes the teen characters it can be quite enjoyable.
Let me tell you what makes this move so bad ranked from most likely reason to least likely reason.
1.) Becky G. (My dislike for this woman grew as the movie went on. Why is this woman even working in Hollywood? Oh wait, cause she is "kinda" cute)

Well, that was nostalgic fun. And the theme song...
Shares some of the tropes of the 2015 Fantastic Four movie - too long a build up, less time on suiting up - but its less disposable than that disastrous effort. I've never been a Power Rangers fan, and while the film is no classic, it was better than I expected. Like the aforementioned superhero movie, however, it still falls uncomfortably between a a dark sci-fi drama and kids superhero flick.
Very good movie, Rita is ... just strange, she's note the Rita i watched when young on the TV Show and not so good CGI for the Megazord didn't make it a bad movie, it's cool and of course very nostalgic to watch a Power Rangers movie, it's worth watching it specially because of the Pink and Yellow Rangers, if you know what i mean ;-)

As someone who grew up with the original Mighty Morphin series, this film has a serious nostalgia factor. The characters may be a bit different, but the heart of the franchise shines through quite well. However, the movie itself has some issues: Not only was there way too much profanity, including an overuse of the s-word, but some of the scenes were creepier than anything I've seen in any incarnation of the Rangers. If you thought Lord Zedd was scary, some moments in this flick make him look like a cute, cuddly puppy. Having Rita wear a see-through, net top in one scene was also unnecessary. Though the final battle was intense, the last moment--simply swatting Rita away--was a bit anticlimactic. Even with its problems, this was fun; still, I'm glad this one flopped, because I'd much rather watch the Rangers on television. The original theatrically released Mighty Morphin film, as well as Turbo, proved that Saban's superheroes should stick to the small screen...and this film just proves it even further.
I wish it had a better score, because those 10 seconds of 'go go' just wasn't enough for me. For the rest, it has the same cringeworthy bad storylines (what story?) as the 90s series, the same dumb line delivery and stupid writing and the same bad acting. If I had to rate this movie based as a standalone, it would have scored much lower than the 5 it gets now. Because you do not make a good and realistic Power Rangers movie that has high standards. That would just be stupid.
It was entertaining. Especially the scene where the characters get to know each others. I also thought that the actors were doing a good job! 7/10 for mighty power rangers and nostalgic feelings - don't take this movie too serious though!
Sorry but this movie was so amazingly boring that I didn't manage to fully finish it without falling asleep. Amazing that everyone is trying with the retro now but don't get it right…
A decent update, but there were alot of unnecessary additions. The pointless race-swapping was weird and forced. The score felt like it was trying a little too hard to be edgy and the action wasn't quite as bombastic as it needed to be. All of the campy fun of the original is nowhere to be seen and it loses points for that. Stylistically I guess it looked pretty cool though.
Great intro movie and I can see a whole bunch of these movies coming out.
The whole Krispy Kreme plug was a little much, and I hope they don't keep doing this with every movie.

Just like most people I expected Power Rangers to be garbage. Surprisingly it turned out to be a very worthy blockbuster with solid characters. It feels like a hybrid of the Breakfast Club with the modern day superhero movies. It takes a nice mix of young and experienced actors all of which do pretty solid work. Elizabeth Banks may be a little too cartoony with the villain role but I think she may have just been doing what she asked. I would definitely watch a sequel but whether it will happen or not remains to be seen.
A waste of your time if you are over 15. It was worse than I had expected and I didn't have high expectations to begin with.

This movie is literally the best remake I've ever seen.
Everything was just perfect and based on the Mighty Morphin series. I loved every character, from Alpha to Rita, every single one of them did a grat job. I was just screaming with the little details that counted so much, like Alpha's "Ay, ay, ay"; and the song... OMG I didn't expected the song, it was so awesome I just cried. This is a great movie. The last scene, was incredible, i can't wait to see Tommy :D
This was actually pretty cool. A well-intentioned action movie for kids. I don't think there's nothing quite like it out there right now, since Transformers is hardly adequate. I had a great time. I hope they get enough to make a second part, as great as it is to have educational and great Pixar movies, sometimes kids deserve to watch huge robots punching each other.

Why would you even attempt to stretch something so anus over 2 hours? Typical big roaring villain bs.
A very good origin movie for the Power Rangers, the trailers made it look darker than it turned out to be, but these Rangers feel like real people with real problems not the stock personalities of the Mighty Morphing Era of the show (not that I minded those it had a great camp Adam West feel, but the direction is refreshingly different here).
I do feel the pacing could have been tightened up, and Trini could have had more time to be developed. In particular it would have been great to see her coming out to her parents. Perhaps they can give her an onscreen girlfriend for the next movie, especially if the rumors are true and Tommy is going to be a girl, since they seem to be building up Kim and Jason.
Was a pretty awesome movie, I wish we would have seen them fight abit more outside the zords but I guess that will come with the future movies, as this one is basically setting the story, all in all was a good watch, can't wait to watch it now with my nieces and nephews :D had to watch it on my own first. And what a perfect ending the original Kimberley and the one and only green ranger Tommy, and Jason I think that was him there aswell lol
I love it, I know this is really far from being a perfect superhero movie, but the thing i love about it is that is totally made for fans, i mean if you were a kid who used to spend the time after school watching the original show then this movie will make you remind all that time, and the best is that it really made a history of each character and made you understand why they are the chosen ones, and it transform the power rangers in a real superhero team.
This movie's lika a King's novel - for 1.5h there's just talkin', for the rest half an hour all hell break loose, giant mosnters fight! Good storytelling :)
Its exactly what I expected from a reboot. Nice call backs to the original series but still different enough to make it its own thing. Could of used more zord fighting but there is always the next movie. Bryan Cranston is good as Zordon, its cool he was able to come back after he was two monsters in the show. We get to see the real green ranger next movie.
I had high expectations about this movie and now that i've seen it, i can finally say: IT'S AMAZING! The characters are well developed, awesome fight scenes, special effects are stunning and the script is very well written. GO SEE IT, AND YOU WON'T REGRET! #ItsMorphinTime
