Prince was a fine actor, but a better performer, and this film is a tidy platform to place his musical (and ventriloquist) abilities. It’s quite an erotic film at times, just like the tone of his album.
And the album music…fantastic as always, and then some more hidden gems unique to the film.
The music is just so good nothing else matters.
OK, so the music's good. But that's on the album, so what about the film? Well, they lost me when the abusive Kid beats Apollonia to the floor, just like his abusive father did before; oh, and what about that scene where the scantily clad female is abandoned alone in the night under the bridge? – pretty disgusting too… The treatment of women actually made me think of those old James Bond movies, and that's not a good thing.
Beautiful scenic drive in Minnesota, though.
This is a great film of a great song. RIP Prince.
