:scroll: Plot: A young lady named Grace (Samara Weaving) gets married to the love of her life and finally arrives at his palatial ancestral home to meet the family, but just when the meet-and-greet turns festive, she realizes that the family is involved in murderous hunting games, and that she’s the prey.

:man:⚖ Review : Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett , this horror comedy is a slick entertainer. The premise is fresh, unique and gradually developing intriguing screenplay packs a punch. The film keeps you engaged even if the entire movie is shot inside a mansion with a psycho family running around to kill a girl. The dark and gruesome humour is a plus point of this very tightly edited movie.
Samara Weaving is brilliant , she plays the bold character of Grace who rather being a damsel in distress , fiercely attends the situation to escape the environment. The Other Characters are extremely funny and have done great work.
Overall , this slasher horror movie is a fun and entertaining ride which gives you chills and laughs while being Dark and Deadly at the same time. An absurd family, a cruel game and a newly wedded girl in distress all in all makes this one a worthy watch.

.
:thumbsup:Goods :
1.Samara Weaving's Rock Solid Act
2. Intriguing Premise and fresh take on Horror Comedy
3. Tightly Edited Screenplay

.
 Bads :
1. Too much bloodshed so definitely not a family movie.

.
:fire: Final Rating : 7.5/10

:white_check_mark: Verdict : Ready or Not shifts from being a bloody hilarious state to entirely bloody state. With a fresh take of horror along with comedy this one is a worthy watch.

"Would you like to play a Game?'...... In 1983, a supercomputer A.I. named "Joshua" asked that question of high school hacker David Lightman. Thinking it was "just a game", he chose to play "Global Thermonuclear War". Hilarity, hi-jinks and the possibility of instigating World War 3 ensued. The moral of THAT story was..., "the only way to win, is NOT to play".
But what if the stakes were lower? Let's say, the love of your life's LIFE, for immeasurable wealth and prosperity? Now, let's up the ante, say, unlimited wealth an prosperity for every living member of you family. But, the caveat is, that, if you decide NOT to make that sacrifice, the demonic, paranormal streams get crossed, and, your Fam is TOAST!!!
Thus is the dilemma that Alex Le Domas finds himself in, as "Ready or Not" opens with him and his betrothed, Grace, taking their vows in front of the entire Domas clan. What he has hinted at, but failed to fully disclose to his beloved. is that years ago, the deceased patriarch of the family made a Faustian bargain with a man named Le Bail, the terms of which were endless wealth and riches, in exchange for the promise that, whenever someone new marries into the family, they have to "play a game" seemingly chosen at random by a mechanical puzzle box. There are several seemingly innocuous games that might be picked, but, the one you DON't want, is "Hide and Seek", for reasons that will soon become apparent.
Alas, Grace draws the Hide and Seek card, and, while she thinks she's in for a fun and silly evening of frivolity, the reality is, that, unless she can remain hidden from midnight until dawn, she's will find herself playing the unfortunate native villager to the Domas's Aztec(ish) Demi God. This potentially urgent detail is withheld from her until after the game is afoot.
The thing is, it has been so long since the clan has had to play "Hide and Seek, that, they themselves are not fully convinced that the disastrous consequences of NOT completing (or losing) the "game" will actually come to pass. And thus, we as the audience have our own doubts. Plus, they are SO INEPT at using the medieval weapons they are each issued, that, mishaps and accidents are hilariously (and grotesquely) inevitable.
Here though, is where the writers surreptitiously turn the "final girl" trope on it's head. Rather than being the damsel in distress, screaming and crying, hoping to be rescued by her man, Grace quickly determines that she will be the master of her own destiny, much to the chagrin of the Le Domas clan.
Time and again, they seemingly corner Grace, only to be out-witted, out-lasted, and out-played in their own all too real game of Survivor. Thus, they become more and more desperate, as the clock keeps ticking toward the dawn. This precipitates a crisis of faith, in several of the clan, as they must choose between their humanity, their family, and their faith in the punishment that will supposedly occur should they fail.
We, as the audience, are left with the same doubts, and, right up to the end, we are second guessing what the reality actually is. The end IMO does not disappoint, especially when, upon viewing the Blu Ray "extras", you hear what the original ending was to be.
Samara Weaving is indeed an up and coming star to watch.
Brilliantly well written, acting, production etc.
I was completely taken by surprise by the dark comedy element. I didn’t expect anything comical at all, I thought it would be similar to ‘Get Out’, but I was very wrong. If I’d known beforehand, I may not have been as interested to watch it, but the dark comical timing was spot on, just when you didn’t expect it.
The lead actress gives a brilliant performance, she stole the whole film, but I suppose the focus was on her and she pulled it off perfectly.
I’ve watched it twice recently, once with my mum and then with my 19yr old daughter and we all really enjoyed it. So, it certainly caters for all ages.
Despite only 6 weeks ish between watching it, I still loved it and my eyes were glued to the tv. I’m normally a watch once and never repeat, unless requested by someone else.
Excellent horror thriller, despite the dark comedy. It was actually really refreshing.
The storyline in reality was basic, so it took some real genius to turn it in to such a brilliant film, with almost non stop action.
I highly recommend and a huge shout out to the leading actress!

So recently, yesterday in fact, I created a list of about 160 movies that I want to (re)watch in 2023-2024. Since I was in the mood for a thriller movie, I chose to start with the fifth element of the list, Ready Or Not. With an appealing overview and a basic but interesting premise, my desire to see this work was at an all-time high.
Overall, the film does not disappoint. It succeeds in creating a powerful and intense atmosphere that puts the viewer on the edge of their seat. The performances are good and from a directing standpoint good choices were made.
My problem with this film is a lot about the supernatural aspect as a finale. I understand that something came for them for not fulfilling their deal. But the fact that they just explode made me find the ending extremely sudden, uninteresting and even sarcastic and that's the main reason I believe 3.5 is the best grade I can give.
However, after the credits finished, I went to check the average rating and the rating of the "movie buffs" I follow. The average rating is what was expected, however, I saw that someone I knew from a Discord server had given this film a 10/10. I was extremely intrigued and immediately went to inquire why she had given the maximum rating, i.e., I wanted to hear her judgment of the film upon viewing it. This is what she answered me, regarding what I mentioned earlier about the ending: "Yeah, I saw that part differently. The premise is basically that the rich family has to sacrifice someone outside their midst every now and then to keep their fortune and their life going, and in the end they explode meaning that the whole system that led them to this ritual is real, and if they don't sacrifice people below them they really lose everything they have. And I completely agree with her (more philosophical, I would say) perspective. And that's the beauty of the seventh art, everyone has the ability to create their own interpretations that justify their opinions.
