While on the surface this looks like a regular “hit the bottom, overcome and get sober” type of movie, it’s more contemporary and dont have too many cliches, and has the right tone. It’s not easy to find right tone and balance in this genre. Not many movies can. Knoxville is the best part of the movie. It’s a revelation to see him playing a serious dramatic role. And he can play!For the first ten minutes I was confused expecting some kind of crude humour from him. Great seeing him play a person rather than a jackass caricature. Bobby Lee and Theo Von may be too recognisable and giving them most outrageous jackass type characters is not the best choice. At least they haven’t overdone it.
