Sweet Dreams 2024

I had VERY low expectations for this movie, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I figure some goofball take on the topic... but boy was I wrong, and happily so.

This film, while it had it's over-the-top moments in joke form, was touching, heartfelt and was truly a positive film. I cannot imagine having an addiction problem, I know people who do, and when I see a movie like this, or a show like Loudermilk, I find that these do a good job of representing how hard it is for people with these addictions, and it is a perspective I appreciate, as it allows me to be more sympathetic.

I highly recommend watching this film, it is NOT what you expect, and EVERYONE was fantastic in this, including Bobby Lee, which someone called out in an earlier comment, but his role was VERY different than the rest, that said, everyone was different, and for the role Bobby played, he killed it (like everyone else).

While on the surface this looks like a regular “hit the bottom, overcome and get sober” type of movie, it’s more contemporary and dont have too many cliches, and has the right tone. It’s not easy to find right tone and balance in this genre. Not many movies can.
Knoxville is the best part of the movie. It’s a revelation to see him playing a serious dramatic role. And he can play! For the first ten minutes I was confused expecting some kind of crude humour from him. Great seeing him play a person rather than a jackass caricature.
Bobby Lee and Theo Von may be too recognisable and giving them most outrageous jackass type characters is not the best choice. At least they haven’t overdone it.
