The Breed 2001

After The Matrix was released, several movies tried to emulate the cybergoth cool that it was so well known for. Case in point: The Breed.
At its core, this is a film noir, set in a world of vampires. We get an odd-couple, buddy-cop duo of a human working with a vampire. Stylistically, the feel is that of the 1930s living in a kind of not-too-distant version of the 2000s.
Technically, the movie is pretty well made. There's some bad CGI, and some unintentionally funny moments, but overall, the movie is good. You call tell everyone involved was doing their best to make a good movie with what must have been a small budget.
I liked how several of the names used were taken from the world of horror: e.g., Lucy Westenra, and Barbara Steele.
Good action - if not a little cliche at times. Descent-enough acting. Great pacing. There was a sex scene that could have been cut out, but you get to see Bai Ling's ass for a moment. Worth it? Totally.
Deserves at least one watch. If you are a fan of the Blade or Underworld movies, give this one a try.
