At times it feels like there's too much unnecessary talk and not much of a real war until the very last part. Very strong believable performance by Charlize Theron though.
Once upon a time an unnecessary prequel/sequel was made to the Snow White original. The film had its moments but was ultimately a letdown in terms of spectacle and story. The end.
Was with the first movie, I was quite bored with this one. At least this time they left out the horrible actress from #1, but the story and the whole execution was flat…
I watched this movie before and now I watched it again. I forgot, it's been a while. An excellent production. The last time it came was in 2016, but it hasn't arrived yet. I wish it had continued. And in the Snow White Movie, everyone was there except him. I wish it had been highlighted more, but it was a good series. You're the ice queen, I'm sorry. I wish the movie would continue, but it doesn't seem possible.
Did anyone really ask for this? The first movie wasn't anything that special and quite unnecessary when thinking about it, and so was this movie but even more unnecessary.
Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain are both solid actors that always give a good performances, but not in this movie. Chastain Scottish accent is so awful and so distracting that I'm surprise not a lot of people have bought this up. Emily Blunt dose what I call "The Eddie Ascending performance" where she talks really quite at the first and then out of nowhere just explode with rage.
Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are also in this movie...and both are given nothing to do.
Overall: "The Huntsman Winter’s War" is a joyless, empty, and a very dull flick that takes away the magic from a fairy tale.
I know this may not be a long detail review, but just like what Mike Stoklasa (RedLetterMedia) once said "Who gives a f**k."
Even if it's a sequel it's better played, funnier and more interesting than Snowhite - it doesn't happen very often ;>
I enjoyed it, think it´s way better than "Snow White". But I thought it´s supposed to be a prequel not a sequel. Isn´t it actually both ?
Oh, and there is no better Narrator than Liam Neeson. He could tell me the world is flat and I would buy in.
The story was mostly predictable but the scenes were well shot, there was great acting, the music was flawlessly integrated within the film.
The Huntsman Winter’s War is a prequel off Snow White & the Huntsman. It tells the story of how the Huntsman became and also how Ravenna became and how big a part the mirror actually plays in her life.
I liked this movie better than Snow White & the Huntsman. When I watched this movie I realized I hardly remember anything of Snow White & the Huntsman, so I should probably watch that one again now. I’m pretty sure I would have remembered Chris Hemsworth speaking Scottish. So when the movie started that felt like kind of a shock, haha. The movie locations were very beautiful and brought a lot to the vibe of it all. Also, I can talk for hours about how pretty al the costumes were. I absolutely adored them, especially Freya her dresses suited her so well.
Chris Hemsworth was his great self yet again. While I was watching I realized how alike The Huntsman and Thor actually are, or maybe it’s just because it’s Chris. I don’t know, so some parts felt a bit Thor-ish. He did a great job though! Great fight scenes (especially the one in the bar, I love fighting scenes without music) and he was so funny as well! I was a bit disappointed in Jessica Chastain her character Sara. I didn’t get enough information about her to really get to know and love her. Jessica Chastain for sure is on my favorite actresses list so I adore her, but I had a bit of a hard time with Sara. I just like to know as much as possible about the characters. Never enough information, ya feel. Charlize Theron was a great Ravenna yet again, she really fits the character. Although we haven’t seen a lot of her this movie, she was amazing whenever she was on screen. I was so surprised about Emily Blunt her performance as Freya. She’s a complicated character who’s just a bit in a fight with herself, she thinks she’s doing good, or at least I felt like she think’s she’s doing good, while she’s actually doing so much wrong. She was sane enough to “lead” and partly understand what she’s doing but behind it all it was so clear that she was slowly turning insane of the loss she had to endure. Emily showed it throughout the whole movie and now when I look at posters I even see those emotions in her eyes. She was really, really good.
To end my little story I’d like to thank the dwarfs for the fun laughs, cuz they were hilarious.
(Emily Blunt was so good though, I can’t get over it, seriously)
Now we know what would happen if Elsa loses her mind on the next Frozen movie.
This was a nice watch, and Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt's performances were great. Unfortunately, the movie lacked any 'special' or memorable moments, which shouldn't have been that difficult to achieve in such a fantasy-filled world.
With a very weak first and second act and many errors this cannot be called an excellent movie. However, the third act makes more than up for the blandness. The ending makes the movie, in combination with a good atmosphere and nice visuals, into a movie worth watching.
Sheridan Smith (and Nick Frost in a lesser degree) take care of the (few) good laughs while Theron and especially Blunt are the most intriguing characters. I wish Emily's character had a bit more kick in her powers, especially in the final act, but then again It would've made Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain's characters completely irrelevant if that was the case.
It is actually surprising that with such a great cast this movie isn't better than it is. The writing just isn't good enough to get it to that next level. A pity really.
It's difficult to imagine that filmmakers could compile such a great cast, then go so far off base w/ the script that it doesn't really make a difference. I've read where this was considered a prequel/sequel, but I don't see how that's possible, since the events of this story clearly took place after the first movie. To have that be the case and not have Kristen Stewart reprise her role as Snow White, it was the huge hole at the center of the story. Charlize Theron's primary motivation was killing Snow White, so how do you make that a central theme of a film w/out utilizing Snow White? Other than that, there really wasn't anything special about this story. It was standard fare for this type of film. One thing that stood out to me as bothersome were two scenes, where, when approached by opposing forces, Chris Hemsworth just stood there and was taken captive. It begged the question: Isn't your entire purpose in this film to protect the mirror, and kill the evil queen? What sense does it make to simply stand there and be captured...twice?!?
6/10
Fair (just)
Man this was a rough
sequel and barely connected
to the first.
nothing made sense along
with motivations.
The second and third
act we're rough and dragged
like fcuk then,
certain things
we're left unresolved,
then we got that
little good bit right at the end
but I would hardly call it a
Payoff.
Emily blunt was amazing/Sensational
as always and was clearly the best part,
i enjoyed all her scenes
(wish they had been more of)
she is one of my
all time favourites Actresses,
so that was definitely a plus
having her tremendous acting
ability and presence.
That Sara I just didn't enjoy
or get invested in her at all
just seemed very unlikeable
and her accent was horrible,
I hated it
and it felt so outta place,
I would have rather had
Kristen Stewart back
in place of that
Sara, I actually enjoyed
Snow White in the first
you know "Snow White"
movie.
this movie just didn't
Tie to the first at all
and if you put them side
by side they make no sense
and even contradict
each other.
Everything about the concept
of this movie was
Shoehorned in.
The first movie was
a good concept and a
far far better movie
"by far".
This movie has no right
calling itself
"Winter Wars"
because there was certainly
none of that,
This movie could have
been Amazing
but instead it was dull
and boring, awful pacing
with none of
the good stuff that allowed
me to enjoy number 1.
If this movie has taught me
anything is
"That Their Is No
Happy Ever After"
verdict:
a lot of BS
to get to the point.
Marketed as a prequel (though it really isn’t), The Huntsman: Winter’s War is an action-packed fantasy adventure. It begins as an origin story, telling of how Eric was recruited and trained to be a huntsman for Freya, the queen of the north, but then it jumps forward several years to Queen Snow White tasking him with recovering Ravenna’s magic mirror (which has been stolen) and taking it to a sanctuary where its evil magic can be contained; but little does he know, Freya has learned of the mirror and wants its power for herself. Chris Hemsworth, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, and Charlize Theron lead the cast and give strong performances. However, the storytelling is so trite and predictable that there’s no real mystery or suspense. Still, the action is exciting and there’s some fun comedy with the dwarves. While The Huntsman: Winter’s War is a bit of a mess, it’s entertaining and a step up from the previous film.
Even though an excellent cast (which includes Jessica Chastain as the new protagonist, Sarah, who can be more convincente at battles than the pure and innocent Snow White), the story of the movie can't reach the first one and just seems confuse.
It's nice to see what happened to the huntsman wife before and, also, to see a outcome to his love story, but it doesn't make any sense when you figure out that the flirting between Snow White and the huntsman in the first movie was completely forgotten or ignored here. Btw, Snow White becomes completely irrelevant, being shown only on her back, at short takes. Besides, the Freya plot doesn't seems to fit at the original storyline too, and remind a type of dark version of Elsa from Frozen, who was influenced by her worse sister, the Evil Queen Ravenna.
At the end, can be said that the movie has potential, but cannot demonstrate depth to the characters or even bring memorable scenes, getting lost on the way and deserving a 6/10.
This is kind of a prequel and a sequel to Snow White and The Huntsman. It is not as impressive as the first movie but quite good anyway. I would call it a nice family movie although probably not for the youngest members of the family.
The story is partly before and partly after the events in Snow White and The Huntsman. It is a good adventure with plenty of magic and special effects and a fair bit of action. It is a fairly straightforward story without much in terms of surprises.
There is a bit of comical relief in particular by the dwarfs, especially when the two dwarfs following the huntsman encounters the grumpy female one and her friend.
Apart from the classical Snow White setting, quite good special effects and quite decent action this is a fairly normal fantasy adventure movie. It is about two hours of good fun but does not really reach wow-status.
i loved Charlize act, and eh not so good movie.
this is not following the previous movie "snow white and the huntsman"!!! and if it does explain, but i think it's like it has it own direction.
Enjoyable fantasy film with great visuals. Emily Blunt was really good
A fotografia é perfeita, mas o conteúdo do filme parece recortes de vários contos de fadas.
The makeup and the costumes are just stunning.
I can't really recall the first movie.... But that voice/accent of the huntsman is just horrible. Is that Chris' real, own voice or what. Omg.

When you have Emily Blunt wasted pretty much playing a dark version of Elsa there wasn't much promise for this in the first place. It's not hard to tell that Winters War is from the director of Maleficent either. Since you have Freya (Emily Blunt) turning bad due to a great loss and a broken heart; like Maleficent.
A Huntsman prequel to a just decent Snow White movie was never necessary. With such a great cast I expected something attracted them to the movie other than money but I was wrong. There's nothing for any true Fantasy fan other than sadly the ones who liked Frozen and Twilight.
Since you have to appreciate the lackluster young adult stuff like Twilight to enjoy this. While some Frozen fans might want to see it for a Elsa like snow queen. This one doesn't sing Let it Go though and is against anyone who believes in love.
Blunt is one dimensional as a woman scorned who has to act broken and preach about how love sucks every time she is shown. Anyone could have played the part and she should have let someone else play the part...
Despite some good swordplay there's not much that kept my attention. Jessica Chestain isn't bad at least; as well as Nick Frost as a dwarf. Most of the acting otherwise was so eh that I even missed Kristen Stewart.
Winters War made me sad that a great fantasy like Willow was so under-appreciated in 1988. Since that movie offered plenty of fun. I can't say this movie ever was fun or magical for that matter.
When it also doesn't even lead into Snow White and the Huntsman well. The movie had no true good reason for being made.
