Charles Laughton Filmography
Schwarz Weiß, Abenteuer, Action Filme, Oldies
These are Hitchcock's first forays into Hollywood film, under contract with David O. Selznick as producer. These films are, according to Slavoj Zizek, center on "the perspective of the female heroine, traumatized by an ambiguous (evil, impotent, obscene, broken...) paternal figure. That is to say, the story is, as a rule, narrated from the point of view of a woman divided between two men: the elderly figure of a villain (her father or her aged husband, embodying one of the typical Hitchcockian figures, that of a villain who is aware of the evil in himself and strives after his own destruction) and the younger, somewhat insipid 'good guy' whom she chooses in the end."
