There is nothing spectacular to see here, 80 minutes of movie is about right for this type.It wasn't bad i enjoy it and not get bored
Every second on screen that is not shark related is laughable. The skyping, the exposition spewing, the CGI face swapping for surf scenes....all groans. But once it's shark time?! Holy hell was this movie fun. I was worried the trailer showed the whole movie. It really doesn't. What a blast.
I feel conflicted and have many thoughts on this. The way the camera follows Blake's body is so sexist. The storyline gets less and less realistic, to a point were it's just madness. I don't know whether it is on purpose, but it has a few plot holes and just makes no sense at times. In addition to that, the song played during the last scene feels very off. Still, something about this was amazing. The scenery was so nice to look at. Blake Lively's brilliant performance made me feel on the edge the whole time. I will never swim in the ocean again bye
of all the girl in a skimpy bikini fighting a shark movies I've seen this is by far the skimpiest
Grab your popcorn because it's time for another shark-survival movie. Some pacing problems here and there but overall, it was a very decent movie. Putting any surfing activities on hold... indefinitely.
in the real world a shark wouldn't care about people in the water when there is a wale carcass to chew on. They should have come up with a better story. Other then that the suspenseful parts were great.
Blake Lively's performance in 'The Shallows' is very engaging. The movie is basically a one-woman show. Blake gives everything she has to make her fight for survival look realistic and she really does it great. Her performance elevates the movie above the usual mediocrity one is used to seeing in these kinds of survival movies these days. She's not only easy on the eyes in her surfer outfit, but she also acts realistically and makes you feel the character's pain.
I thought it was a pretty decent and relatively realistic shark attack movie – up until the finale that is. Just before the final fight against the shark, there is an under-water scene involving glowing jellyfish, which just seems completely unrealistic and out of place to me. That scene is something for a sci-fi movie. Then there is the final fight in which the shark is killed in the most ridiculous and unrealistic way imaginable. The payoff in this otherwise decent movie is just laughable and something I would have expected seeing in a Sharknado installment or something.
It's too bad that the movie doesn't hold up until the very end, but it is still a rather decent survival movie. Watch it for Blake Lively's great performance, if nothing else.
Streamed via Hulu (FXM)
Never a big fan of shark movies because the cliche is inevitable but this is a pretty solid thriller with effective scares and short runtime. The setting was done pretty good too. The shots were good but I'm taking away 1 star because of excessive amount of unnecessary slow motions.
A list of things I liked:
- The seagull
- Fire shark
- Dead shark
"A short, sharp hit of sun-soaked adrenaline."
Probably the best shark movie I have seen. Was different to the others I have seen so far that get a bit samey and boring.
The most frustrating movie I've ever seen.
Totally agree with Jim! Blake Lively did a good job in this movie but the ending was well sad, to be polite.
While the Shallows isn't one of those big summer movies you waited for. The Shallows is one of the better summer movies. Due to a solid Blake Lively (Savages) and it's at least a convincing shark attack movie until the end that is.
The movie had me at the edge of my seat throughout. Even when it got unrealistic by the end; I still rooted for Blake Lively's survival.
If you are a 16 year old boy or younger, you'd definitely enjoy this movie. If not, you probably won't. The director/writer combination was atrocious, and made for some truly awful decisions.
Firstly, this movie is basically an hour of watching a tall blonde's ass and boobs. The main character wears a bikini, and only a wet suit top which she literally zips up to her cleavage. Jaume Collet-Serra chose to film that shot only to show that the character makes the decision to show her cleavage. Doesn't really matter anyway since she promptly removes the wet suit for "plot reasons."
Aside from the obvious sexism which would make it impossible to watch this movie with any self respecting female, there were many other factors that destroyed the possibility for this movie to be enjoyable on a mature level.. The acting, dialogue, movie physics, and just about every plot point made the movie progressively more comical with each iteration. At one point, a shark tooth is shown, and it's huge.. pretty much the size of a Megalodon tooth. However, when the shark is shown alive with its mouth open, its teeth mysteriously appear to be normal size for the shark.
Jaume Collet-Serra must have watched Jaws when he was little, and after crapping out some high profile, cookie-cutter, action movies, he decided to trick someone into producing this pile of rotting whale carcass for him. After finishing the movie, and checking the director's information, I was stunned to see that this was not a first time director.

My first shark movie in a theater, and was definitely worth it. The breath-taking views and scenario are a show aside. Blake Lively is amazing too. Also, glad that the seagull made it. ♥ haha
This was better than I expected, helped by a strong performance from our heroine and some beautiful photography that really made you feel you were in the water with her... and the shark. I had a good idea what was in store but a few surprises and clever use of cameras made the difference. This was solid genre filmmaking with some bite that is definitely worth your time and money. 7/10
A beautiful place, a intense atmosphere at all times and I loved the use of colors with high saturations, which makes the film even more expressive.
A nice movie to watch.
A bit of cheese here and there, some technical errors with the CGI and editing but if you can forgive it that, then it's one hell of a fun movie! Beautiful location, like the setting and Blake Lively did a good job as the main character. I like how everything unfolded and the layout of the different platforms she uses to stay out of the water—good use of the setting. Every single water scene is anxiety inducing and it maintains the tension the whole way through. Some good scares. The shark looks pretty damn good, it's not top grade but it's very believable. Third act is wild and the way it concludes was totally unpredictable, at least for me. I admire the symbolism at the end.
Overall, The Shallows is a good survival thriller but in the shark category this is superb and definitely one of my favorites.
One of the best survival movies I've seen!
10/10 from me:thumbsup:
This was a fair and decent movie. Nothing special, nothing bad, and definitely nothing ground breaking or innovative. Just an easy to watch movie that good to kill a little bit of time, or to have playing in the background while you might have friend or family visiting.
It’s an engaging film that I enjoyed. It may not be a masterpiece or a sublime work, but it’s a watchable thriller that will not waste anybody’s time. The acting from the cast was also great, so it’s a nice watch overall.
This movie was alright, but just alright. Great to watch Blake Lively spend the entire movie in a bikini, even if that seems to have offended some cuckolds in the review section of Trakt, the rest of us all enjoy the sight. That alone makes the movie more bearable, because past that it's your typical shark attack movie that turns completely batshit crazy in the third act. It's not something I'd make a point of watching again, but it's not so bad I'd turn it off if it was on either.
+1 point for the bikini.
-2 points for the third act and "Taking on the shark"!
I really enjoyed this - nothing particularly new, but maintained the tension throughout. Great photography at the end.
The seagull and the short runtime was the best part.
One of the best shark movies. Blake Lively is great and Sully Seagull is the MVP.
Best shark movie I've seen so far !
Absolute farcical nonsense. Pass this by immediately.
Critics who said this was a solid movie probably watched another movie by the same name! This is a Terrible movie! Very consumed idea, full of predictable and unrealistic moments + The end is pretty ridiculous! Save yourself and your time from this plot-less farce!
Basically "Jaws" without the bite.
PARADISE BEACH: Blake Lively vs Megashark.
I had no expectations but the movie was surprisingly nice! i believed the girl and what happened on screen. watch it casually, don't free up your time for it.
Everything I could want from a Jaws-like movie...including the comedic ending. Tense, bloody and great fun, this is what Saturday nights were made for.
Yeah, like a GoPro battery would actually last that long.
no lo puedo ver ninguna pelicula

It is what it is, don´t expect the world out of it. If you decided to watch this you probably know why ;-)
Those flamable waters in Mexico are probably from Deewater Horizon accident... ;)
i loved this movie #sorrynotsorry
Decent movie. No-one expects much of it anyways. But the final shark scene was veeery poor. It's a 3-4 in general but 6 in its kind.
I don't really like shark movies but this was an exception. I liked it. #ShiftvW8
Pleasantly surprised. This is now my second favorite shark movie. Number 1 is... Well if I have to tell you what the best shark movie of all time is I really don't want to talk to you.
It's never safe to go in the water, if its not one shark its it's mother! Effective thriller, with some decent twists on the 'long in the sharktooth' genre
beauty and animal,wonderful show
in some time of this movie and with that beginning i thought Oh Well! her fate has been decided but after that ending left me with shocking eyes and wide mouth with, i loved every bit of this movie, definitely a SUMMER MOVIE!!! hope u all enjoy it as much as i did. :)
The last movie about sharks make me aflicted was Jaws 1. The Shallows is the second one! EXCELLENT.
beautiful landscapes and views, beautiful actress who does good, shark with no special powers, hungry. I liked it

I honestly thought she was going to eat Steven Seagull.
