Like photos of a friend's grandpa, I have a lot of respect but no emotional connection.
This is a great film for film students. I have a great deal of appreciation for the effort required to make this film in Senegal in 1973, a great deal of acknowledgment for the sincerity of the filmmaking and a great deal of admiration for the filmmaker, but the primitive style and art brut editing meant I didn't have a great deal of amusement while watching it.
I know real critics love this, which is why I insist I'm a cinevore and not a cinephile.

Why the hell is this on Sight and Sound’s Top 100?
How anyone can have put this in their top 10 list i have no idea.
Nothing of interest here. It’s amateur hour.
Had little idea what was going on, who was who, etc. and didn’t care.
