in my my top 10 best films easily!!!
clint being clint, what's not to like
Real good movie though slow at times. Ended well and was not in anyway a waste of time. I think overall, I would give it a 7.5 out of 10.
Film 146 (Goal: 300) of 2024:
I'm a sucker for a sports genre movie - always have been. And I've watched some really good ones lately, that I either wasn't aware of or wasn't expecting to like. Trouble with the Curve stars Clint Eastwood as an elderly baseball scout, who's sight is failing him and is being pushed out by younger, uneducated men who rely on technology. His daughter, played by Amy Adam, has a strained relationship with her father. At the request of their friend, worried about Eastwood's health and career, she joins her father in North Carolina, to review a highly touted potential #1 draft pick.
Trouble with the Curve isn't a bad sports movie by any means. One may argue that sports is the back drop to the relationships between Adams and Eastwood, as well as Adams and Justin Timberlake, who plays a young scout with big ambitions. Eastwood spends a good portion of the film over extending that trademark scowl, with all his dialogue being of a man out of place and completely disillusioned with the world. There's an interesting bit of character development that comes to fruition very late into the film, that is a welcomed addition. It would have been nice to have a little more of those turns earlier into the film.
The film finishes far too sweetly however, as everything lines up perfectly for every single character, in a way that is completely unbelievable. And while you want the protagonists to win in these movies, but it goes a step too far. But other than these things, Trouble with the Curve is a more than adequate film.
This is a tough one to leave a rating for. We have Eastwood playing the grumpy old man which seems to have become his staple character in later years. There’s a good cast involved and mostly decent performances. The main drama is decent but not really adding anything new. Like so many of these sports films, the baseball aspect is rather unrealistic but I guess it serves its purpose as a plot device. All around, it’s mostly average across the board.
"Anybody who uses computers doesn't know a damn thing about this game."
This movie is like Moneyball if you made it a Hallmark special and removed all the Sorkinisms. JT and Amy Adams are great together though.
First movie in a while that kept me in front of the screen from start to finish.
sweet little movie with very good performances =)
Clint played the same character here that he played in Gran Torino, except here the movie has a saccharine sweet fairytale ending. Liked 3/4 of the movie, hated the ending.

I enjoyed 'Trouble with the Curve'.
There are a few too many moments of cringe for my liking, renditions of 'You Are My Sunshine' included, but as a whole it's a solidly entertaining sports flick - with added love drama.
The cast are the film's major plus, with Clint Eastwood - in his first strictly acting role since the early 1990s and last to date of review - and Amy Adams naturally sticking out most. Other cast members include Justin Timberlake, Matthew Lillard, John Goodman and Scott Eastwood - the latter shares a scene with his father, which is nice.
A few different choices by the filmmakers and I'd be rating this a tad higher, but as is it's a good film - one that is worth a watch.
