This is what it would look like if you filmed an entire motion picture in selfie mode with the beauty filter on max.
omg this movie is iconic... the mostly-cgi bike chase scene? literally groundbreaking
I agree with @DRNKMNKY's comment. It seemed like one big soft glow/blur effect. The fighting scenes also seemed a bit unbelievable, like even with the enhanced skills o.o Killing a hundred people with one blow?!?
Oh god why.. Milla, honey, tell me why you did this sheet movie..
It’s sooo bad, that it’s good...we have a conundrum. Ultraviolet is way over-the-top, cheesy, and flat out ridiculous, yet it’s extremely entertaining and fun to watch. In the war between Humans and Hemophages (a genetically altered sub-species dubbed “vampires”), an underground freedom fighter named Violet comes across a young boy that may hold a cure. The CGI and special effects are especially bad, but the film uses an interesting comic book aesthetic that makes it work. And, the filmmakers have created a rich science-fiction world with some fascinating high-tech gadgetry. At its core, Ultraviolet is a textbook guilty pleasure film that’s honest about what it is and just tries to have fun.
When The Matrix (1999) arrived, so many movies were trying to emulate its style; Ultraviolet is one.
To say the movie is over stylized would be an understatement. It has all the ultra-cool sci-fi action attributes: techno music, big fight scenes, cybergoth aesthetic. Basically an anime at times.
Another big part to talk about here is the amount of CGI, wow. To say the movie is using copious amounts of CGI is putting it mildly. The entire movie looks like it was shot against blue screen. There are other moments that look like a video game. Think Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow (2004) and you'll have a good idea.
A minor problem within was the rating - PG-13. I wouldn't say it was a big problem, because the action was still able to play out. Trouble is the fights involved guns, and swords, yet there was no blood. None. People are getting shot, and stabbed, hell, a guy gets cut in half in one scene, but there's not a drop of blood - to be fair, he was on fire, so whatev'. I think the movie would have benefitted from an R, merely because the sanitization made the violence weird.
On to the cast. When you have a movie that is going to feel a lot like Resident Evil (2002), you may as well get the queen herself, Milla Jovovich. Is she good? Yeah, in her early-2000s, super-cool, unstoppable-force kind of way.
The only other name worth mentioning is Nick Chinlund, as our villain. He really shines as the gleefully-evil bad guy.
As for the story: there's not much going on here. Violet (Jovovich) is here to rescue a boy from the bad guy. Lots of flashy fights. The end. Also, this is technically a vampire movie, but it literally could be cut out and wouldn't matter at all.
As a side note, while watching this, it occurred to me that Milla would have made a perfect Baroness - from G.I. Joe. How this never happened should be considered a crime against humanity. Furthermore, The Rise of Cobra (2009) released only three years after this. Not to say Sienna Miller wasn't good, she was great, but Milla is Baroness. I much prefer to watch Ultraviolet as a crazy, spinoff Baroness movie.
So, overall, the movie is good, could have been better. Milla looks fantastic in her skin-tight outfits. If you are a fan of 2000s' cool, check it out. I recommend this to fans of Aeon Flux (2005) or any of the other movies previously mentioned.
This one From anime and live action show,it's quite good.
So, the style of the movie is, shall we call it, interesting. It is also its greatest hindrance as it sets style over substance.
There is a basic story buried here but it only gets marginal exposition. The main focus is on the action sequences, which aren't bad, but ultimately too many of them. The score is way to dominant and the whole dialogue seems to be overdubbed in post production.
And yet, I made it through the end due to the fact, that at about 90 mins runtime, its about right for a quick run through since I own the DVD anyway.
Wouldn't call it unwatchable but at the sime time wouldn't highly recommend it either.
Beautiful woman. A skeletal good vs. evil premise. The rest, all predictable action (how could the vampire/hemophage heroine do anything less than kill hundreds of people to save a young boy?). I'm so glad they told us, at the end of the credits, that all characters are fiction. Violent but gore free. Colourful CGI. Lots of stunt work. Definitely not for everyone but I enjoyed it. Judging the movie within its genre, I give it a 7 (good) out of 10. [Fantasy, Comic Book like Action]
I love milla jovovich favorites actress

Well... could have been better. While the general idea behind the flick is cool, the adaption wasn't to my liking: why had they to use a soft-focus lens? Why are all the SFX clearly recognizable as such? Why haven't the characters more "depth"?
All in all just a mediocre Sci-Fi action flick.
