After the first episode it just went down. Clichés on top of each other, too long cuts where nothing happening. The writer creates conflicts with the lack of conversation and it is annoying.
Too bad they made it a love story instead of a nice political conspiracy time travelling thing.
Soo much potential and the whole intresting part how they manage the assassination got done in 5 minutes.
James Franco is good, finally he is doing some serious role, and overall acting is good.
Good idea, great potential, but what you get is a love story wrapped into 60s.
6/10 for me.
there are a couple of downs during the show but, overall, I must say it's one of the best I have ever seen.. totally worths it to be watched from start to end, do not get disappointed and quit it before it! ;)
What can I say, maybe I am the only one who is out of the box.
This whole JFK discussion has been held too often and I do not find it at all interesting any more.
Watched the first episode out of curiosity and because James Franco, Stephen King and J.J.Abrams are involved.
Well, as I said, it just happened to be very well played and filmed, but the plot is way too annoying and boring.
Lots of TV Series out there, which are way more original and interesting !
Obviously in my humble opinion :)
Best show I have seen in a while. I binged watched I couldn't stop!
After first episode I had enough. I realize that most Americans are stupid but for goodness sake he is a TEACHER! He should have above average intelligence!
Meanwhile, what is our main character doing?
1. He shaves AFTER going to the past because, after all, he couldn't shave at home in the 21st century.
2. Buys a car that everyone pays attention to.
3. When he pisses off the local criminals by winning an impossible bet, then instead of returning with money to the 21st century (and reset time) he goes to... motel.
4.Moving to 1960 year, he takes with him an iPhone (because surely he'll need one?) and a pocket knife a souvenir of the Vietnam War that hasn't happened yet.
And so on and similar idiocies. I wonder if the book original was also an "idiot".
People said this is a brilliant show, and that the first episode was great... they're wrong.
The fact is:
Each time he goes back, the timeline is reset. So when he (Cooper [Al Templeton]) said he didn't kill Lee Harvey Oswald because he wasn't sure he actually killed Kennedy, it introduces a massive flaw.
If the timeline is reset each time you go back, who cares? Kill him, come back to the present, if Kennedy was still assassinated, you were wrong, go back and everything resets.
That alone ruined this show for me, and I really have no reason to watch any more.
Roughly 22 minutes and 30 seconds into the pilot and the writers show how bad they really are.
Disappointing. Only the beginning and the end follow the original book, all the episodes in between have nothing in common other than the Sadie love interest. A lot of repetitive and boring clichéd stuff in the middle episodes with a fair few ridiculous plot holes. Enjoyed the finale though, as it went back to following the book. A full blown Meh for this one. 5/10.
The best mini-series ever. Great acting and plot.
I've heard it's really good, but I absolutely hate James Franco's face.
The show is great. However it has some problems I'd like to write about.
First of all, the plot. Everyone who has read the book will find out that the show has nothing in common with the original story. Maybe the main facts only. The second thing I didn't like was James Franco. He might be a great actor, but as far as I can see he has a couple of face expressions which is not very good. What is more, the pace is too fast, I see, it was done to fit the whole novel into 8 episodes. I wish there were more episodes but all the story was shown without unnecessary character such as Bill Turcotte - George's 'brother'. Lastly, the ending was quite disappointing, since some interesting things were not shown and it felt really wrong: after reading the book I cried, I was incredibly shocked; after watching this show I felt less than 1/100 of these feelings.
On the other side, the atmosphere of the 60's is warm and satisfying and Sarah Gadon is one of the cutest actresses I have ever seen.
After all, I'd like to say that the show is about 6-7/10 for those who have read the novel and about 9/10 for those who haven't. Personally, I'd recommend reading it, because you'll see how different the show is.
I was going to write a long report about this series, but I'll just cut to the core. This is a brilliant show.. 11.22.63 centers around James Franco and is executive produced by Stephen King and J.J Abrams based on a book by King. Need I say more? If you're here seeking out this series, I suggest watching it in entirety. If you're expecting it to be a scene-for-scene adaption of the book then I'd recommend not watching at all because that is not how interpretation works. James Franco delivered a heartwarming performance in this beautifully crafted story about history, love and the speculative horrors of revisionism. The whole cast did a pretty good job with costumes, norms and portraying the differences in time, however, Sarah Gadon (Sadie Dunhill) was such a delight on screen. I hope we get to see more of her in other shows. The story arc was tightly knit and well laid out. What struck me the most is the touching ending to a magnificent journey for the central protagonist. Sit back and enjoy a blast to the past with good acting, decent script, and quality production from Hulu.
Very promising first episode. Looking forward to the entire season. Definitely gonna check out the book.
Not much of a sci-fi/Political thriller more a romance drama, which fine that's okay. But the Kennedy story was the least interesting part for me. Like I still don't get why an English teacher would commit so hard to saving Kennedy.
I'll start by saying I never read the book.
The premise was fantastic. The show was well done. The acting was good as well. Sets, everything was well done. I just have one nitpick, the ending was predictable and boring. I wanted more from the finale but was left disappointed.
Worth the watch regardless.
One of the best tv shows I have ever watch. As good as the book.
Time travel and JFK assassination are not the most important things in the book or the series, but the love story between Sadie and Jack. I have the feeling that Stephen King wrote a love story, the rest of the story is just there to give some action. The relationship between Sadie and Jack is more omnipresent in the book and this increases this feeling. But in the series they managed to recreate the strong chemistry between this two protagonists brilliantly.
I would like to many things about this show, but I prefer to synthesize it with some adjectives: a brilliant, a wonderful, an amazing and a literally HUGE SHOW! Don't miss it!
This show learned me how long a week really is.
Is it Monday soon??
This series is just simply captivating, I enjoyed every second of it and It makes you feel as if you were truly there in 1960. Really makes us think about the effects time travelling would have on us and the necessary sacrifices we need to take in life in order to make the world a better place. If you're thinking about whether you should watch the show, do it. You will not regret it the slightest...
3 Thoughts After Completing ‘11.22.63’:
It was actually a lot darker than I expected it to be. The Stephen King vibe is definitely present. Quite a few eerie, shocking, and supernatural moments.
It will certainly try your emotions. I was left somewhat heartbroken multiple times throughout the story. A good sign that these are characters you care about.
All in all, I enjoyed this limited series that was less about JFK and more about love, but I was left feeling a bit empty. A lot happens. And, in the end, one might question the purpose of it all. I can’t say it didn’t stick it’s landing — it most definitely did — but I guess I wanted more for our main character.
I'll start off by saying I really liked the series, and also I like that overall it's a little complete story, I started watching knowing it was only one season and I would have hated an open ending knowing it would never be continued, so I'm glad it has an established ending.
That said, I enjoyed the love story, but the time travelling seemed to be underutilized in the end, and also the whole Kennedy plot felt a bit short of expectation.
First of all, we don't really know who killed Kennedy, so I hoped it would be a bit more blurry but they go for one guy since the very beginning and it's always him. Yeah I get it, they wanted to have him really characterized and fleshed out, to make it more than just a dude that pulls a trigger, but still I would have appreciated a bit more doubt.
The time travel really is only "useful" for the first 5 minutes of the first episode really, after that Jake is just a dude that knows a lot of stuff. Time travelling isn't really a factor in the story, it's just a way to have a motive to save Kennedy but nothing more. This would have been hard, if not impossible, to do with only 8 episodes, but time travel could have been used much much more as a plot point.
As we know, each time he goes back to the present and again into the past, everything resets and he starts from the same point, so the struggles Jake has in the first few episodes really do not make sense, ok you got jumped by a couple of dudes just go back and go make your bet somewhere else, stuff like that.
Yes the time travel would still get less and less relevant the further you go down the line, of course he wouldn't want to just reset everything after being there for almost 3 years and a love interest, but still as a plot point it still forgotten a bit too soon.
The finale is another point where I have mixed feelings : after all the trouble, he actually manages to save Kennedy...only to find a world in ruines. Which in itself is fine, but still dude let me know more like what the hell happened. We only get to learn that there was bombardments and that Kennedy camps where created, whatever that is supposed to mean.
Who bombarded america? When? What is happening in the world now? Is the world at war or in ruins, or just america? Jake still would have went back it's not that big of a deal, but still you can make up anything you want about how history changed from a single point, just have fun and make anything up.
It's also not really clear how the time travel portal works. When he goes back one last time, Jake is almost stopped by three dudes, but he manages to cross. Can they also cross? Would they get in the past, but a different past than where Jake went to? Can multiple people cross together? Because at a certain point Jake talks with Bill and Sadie about going to the future together, but would that be possible actually?
If that is actually possible, why didn't Jake try to bring Sadie then? Yes he would have to fall in love with her all over again, but judging by the strange feeling and behaviour she had when they met for the first time again that probably wouldn't have been too hard. Also, he can take all the time in the world, like he could just repeat the 3 years and then slowly explain everything to her like he already did (knowing that she would eventually believe him) and then try to bring her.
Which brings up another question, Jake decides to give up on Sadie because the other traveller tells him she would die regardless, buy would that happen if she went into the future with him? Also she isn't supposed to die in the actual timeline, so why would she die regardless if Jake would just live with her without attempting to save Kennedy?
Last but not least, It kinda bothers me how much Jake works for to literally get nothing done. At the start of the series he has no friends, unrewarding job and he is in deep pain coming out of a divorce, after the whole series he has still no friends, goes back to the same unrewarding and sad job, and has to experience even more pain letting go of the love of his life knowing he will never be with her.
The very last dance he has with old Sadie is just bittersweet, like yeah it feels cute but it's actually so sad, idk.
I'm complaining about stuff that honestly couldn't really be fixed in 8 episodes. What in trying to say is, this plot had a lot more potential than this, yeah it's fine in this mini series, but there is just so much more that could be done, more that could be explored but that would need at the very least 20-30 episodes to the very least.
Maybe someday in the future we will get another iteration of this story that will delve deeper into the assassination of Kennedy, that will use the time travel mechanic differently and will try something new, but for now I guess this mini series is fine as it is.
I loved it. A lot of people who read the book didn't seem to like it but I didn't read the book, so I loved it. It's so comfy. I know I'll definitely re-watch this show many times. It's like a feel good movie.
If you can change history, don't try to change it
best mini Tv series Everr!!!
till now i feel sad for Jake and Sadie :broken_heart:
This was a good series. I recommend to people who like the complexities of theoretical time travel although at this point Americans have achieved basic time travel skills and non traumatic biological immortality. Im just a pleb with a dream, its not like the Americans created human biological immortality and a very very basic form of time travel in the late 20th century.
This is why I signed up for HULU. IT is a good telling of the classic Stephen King book. It moves fast enough to keep you interested, without getting into to much detail like Stephen King books can.
thi show is just amazing
An absolutely perfect series through and through. I totally cried at the ending. James Franco does a masterful job in this.
Cliche American pride crap. Sad because Franco is such a good actor (even in it). The whole context of the show is just so dumb. It's always the same stuff over and over and over. If there's nothing original in an idea, then please just don't make it at all.
great show, worth the watch for sure!
This was done really well. I'm glad they don't seem to be trying to milk session upon session out it this. My one criticism would be felt that it could have easily had an additional 4 - 6 episodes around the beginning of his journey, the amount of times he reset back then. Could've done with just another episode of two to develop the Sadie relationship a bit more, too. I'm not sure non-readers would appreciate it much. On the whole though, really good.
I started watching this show without expecting much..... I was pleasantly surprised. This show is absolutely BRILLIANT....
but don't take my word for it... This show is a must see.
Very good show...watch all episode all night...wish the story was longer...

It's a really well done show, but if you're at all plot perceptive you'll find yourself asking "why doesn't he just...?" quite a few times.
Well worth a binge though
8 episodes that make your interest grows up, and a great final; a very good drama that makes us do some questions about life and, most of all, about LOVE.
Loved it. You know it's good when you want another season (to see them again), but you don't too (for the risk of spoiling it).
Brilliant. What a finale.
Watched all the episodes and must say it's a really good show.
Nice ideia, strong pilot good episode 2 and 3 and then... puff. is like we are seeing another show ... and a very bad one. extremely disappointing with this. If you haven´t started seeing it... do yourself a favor and don´t do it.
I really liked this show at the beginning but now I don't like it at all. I'm reading the book and I think that this adaptation is just terrible. Maybe without knowing how everything happens in the book the show can be more enjoyable but I'm about to stop watching this: the only reason I have to keep going is James Franco.
I love Saddie. She's so cute.
LOVED the first episode! I'll definitely be watching the rest.
Like what I've seen thus far. Can't wait until next week.
I haven't finished the first episode yet but I'm already loving what I've seen. Will watch every Monday!!!!!

Hopefully it's the start of more Stephen King adaption shows on Hulu and also Netflix. This is definitely better than Under the Dome. With a solid plot and fine acting.
