High Fantasy is a genre of Fantasy characterized by its setting in a fictional world run by its own laws distinct from the real world. These worlds generally have rich and in-depth environments, unique histories, multiple races such as humans, elves, orcs, and dwarves, and mythical creatures like dragons, unicorns, and many original creatures as well. The use of magic in high fantasy worlds is usually seen as a regular occurrence, although some races may not utilize it.
Originally deriving from Lord of the Rings, the scope of storytelling is no longer exclusively presented in terms of good vs. evil, but may also encompass 'Gritty Fantasy' or 'Grimdark' fantasy-type settings where the formula is cloaked in grey moral settings.
