[7.5/10] Adventure Time is just a cavalcade of bad dads, huh? But it’s nice to get another episode exploring (with a little lighter touch) the relationship between Marcy and her dad. As usual, the show does a nice job of tackling the issue of an adult child dealing with their misbehaving parent, through the lens of the silly and supernatural.
Watching Hunson try to be a good dad, while being selfish and oblivious and generally screwing up royal, only to show that he really does care even if he’s bad about his way of showing it is a nice direction to take the episode. Him standing up for Marcy at the ghost concert and getting beat up is a solid way to dramatize that idea, and Marcy barely tolerating his oblivious screw-ups til that point is quite amusing.
There’s other neat stuff on the margins of the episode. Marcy’s “Slow Dance” song is one of the show’s best -- I would totally jam on a full length version of that. I also liked the flashback to Marcy’s childhood where Hunson bursts through her shelter, both for the comedy and how it drives the point home. And Cousin Chicle infiltrating and instigating and throwing fuel on the fire was a nice touch too.
Overall, lots of laughs, a cool song, and a nice little exploration of bad dads who nevertheless care.
