Adventure Time: Season 5

5x31 Too Old

The lemons have been characterized kinda weirdly so far, and this only raises more questions.

How did Lemongrab decend into this madness?

Why's Finn acting so out-of-character? He's been pining for Princess Bubblegum for most of the series, but this is a whole 'nother level.

It's kinda average otherwise, though - but it feels like they threw Finn's character off the deep end after his break-up with the Flame Princess.

I suppose he might finally realize that Princess Bubblegum is quite literally out of his range though, which would be good.

This is an intersection of so many bad tendencies. We have Finn’s focus on a rebound and only going back to trying to mend things with FP after definitively ruling out Bubblegum as an option. We have Lemongrab. Period. His voice actor and the ableism and the fatphobic trope of fat equaling gluttony and evil. We have Bubblegum in parentalistic savior mode. Most episodes have at least something to hold onto, a goofiness to distract you from if it’s a less than solid episode, but both the A plot and the B plot just feel here. What a one two punch of episodes between this one and the previous one.
