Yume Nijino is a first year middle school student who attends the idol school, Four Star Academy as a freshman student. Within the school is an idol group consisting of four idols known as "S4", and within that group is Hime Shiratori who Yume yearns to be partners with. To start this new life, there will be a show on the main stage for all freshman students to compete in. As this is the first stage, Yume is to show herself on that stage!?
At Four Star Academy, there are four performance sets, song sets, acting sets, dance sets and fashion sets and the new students have to think about which set to try and enter. Meanwhile the welcome party for new students is under way and new students must stand on stage as a pair. The outcome of a lottery pairs Yume Nijino and her classmate Laura Sakuraba. The two people can only disagree, will their stage be a success?
A Spring Festival has been announced to decide which set the new students belong in. Yume wishes to enter within the Song Class that Hime is in, as the Song Class is the most popular of the four classes. However, Yume makes things rather hard for herself, so she becomes rather negative. But, she is given words of encouragement by many people, which suddenly gives Yume a boost of motivation. Now everyone is waiting for the results that will decide which set they belong in. Which one will they be in--!?
To be on Aikatsu! TV is something that brings joy to Yume and Laura. With also the appearance of Hime, things keep motivating them even more. However, it is revealed that they will be working behind the scenes. To Yume this was rather dissapointing to hear, but when she is told to come by early the next morning, she hears her most loved person playing the piano...
There is a test that is to be carried out in just one week and it has made its way to Yume and the others. The challenge has to do with the Dance Stage and the costume is to be made under the conditions of a Dress Make. S4 has announced that they will star in a production of a drama called "ROCK! Rock Girls", which causes Yume Nijino and the other idols of Four Star Academy to cause an uproar. However, the student officers have set up an audition to select three students among the first years to join the drama. Yume, Laura and Koharu are all motivated to pass the audition and co-star with S4. However, who will be the three people to pass the audition!?
This Spring, an ice cream company known as "Jewel Ice Cream" is looking for the "Unique Idol". Being attracted to the word "unique", Laura decides to become a candidate. When she does some research on the personality of being this idol, she realizes something. What is the personality to be this idol? The more Laura thinks about it, the more she doesn't understand, so she decides to try and reach for her own individuality...
Yozora Kasumi from S4 has notified the first year Moon Beauty students about a contest for fashion models. After her attempt on the large stage, Koharu is quite nervous. With their lessons used for production time, everyone is in the same class from midday. With Koharu having no faith in herself, she begins to lose all of her self-confidence...
Yume and Laura are to play in the Campaign Girl Audition for the famous sweets shop, Saiwai Hanando. The president of Saiwai Hanando says that she wants new products related to "sea bream baked in miracles" as she is looking for miracle idols. Intelligence, physical fitness is what those lucky enough need to pass the audition. Overcoming a number of things, who will become the splendid Campaign Girl...!?
One day, Yume is suddenly issued to do the school's office. Since Hime's originally planned live was cancelled, Yume is told to perform her first live instead. Yume Nijino and the others have been living in the dormitories for days, when they receive a strict yet friendly call from Tsubasa Kisaragi, member of S4 and the school's student council president. Meanwhile, a first year has found a pet and brought it in. The dormitories ban pets and as this first year broke the rules, Tsubasa is rather angry yet she doesn't seem worried about it at all.
At least once a year Four Star Academy holds a festival called "Four Star Film Festival", in which this year, an original movie starring Yume and the others called "Little Fairy Story" will be shown. Using a lottery system, Yume is selected for the leading role. The shooting of the film has somehow finally came to an end and the day for the festival has finally arrived. What is the final product for this kind of movie--!?
S4's Yozora Kasumi's program has an idea of recruiting a Stage Dress. Having heard that there will be a special live for whoever has the best dress, Yume and the others are motivated to attempt this as they overflow with determination. Mahiru Kasumi from the first year Beauty Class hears this and for reason has a stern look on her face--.
An implementation for a proficiency test has been announced for the first years. Furthermore, one student from each class will be selected to participate in the Summer Festival as a unit with S4. Test results of their abilities come back and Mahiru Kasumi is the first to be selected for the Beauty Class. Everyone thought she would be happy but her facial expression is firm, saying "I will definitely not lose to my sister"...
It is the second day of the Summer Festival, and Laura Sakuraba will stand on the stage as the representative for the first years from the Flower Song Class in the very same location where the CM was shot. The schedule for Laura's performance was supposed to be on time, but there is trouble with the equipment. It is impossible for Laura to leave the set, so how will Laura be able to get back to the school after her turn--!?
The quartet, Yume Nijino, Laura Sakuraba, Koharu Nanakura and Ako Saotome will make a guest appearance on the popular variety program for M4, and they hope they are ready for it. But Ako, only longs for Subaru Yūki who seems rather worried, as she appears to have forgotten her role as an idol...
It is announced that anyone who is a first year is to be implemented into a fan voting. The top 4 idols of this vote will have to stand on the opening stage for the summer event, "Aikatsu☆Island". While everyone strives for no accidents to occur, Yume has seemed to have found a new Aikatsu...?
The 2nd year S4 member Yuzu Nikaidō, is to compete in a dance competition at Japan's highest level. Yuzu safely qualifies, but she is no where to be found before the final round. All first years from Four Star Academy's Flower Song class are to take an audition over a CD debut. This is a big chance in their eyes, so as rivals, Yume Nijino and Laura Sakuraba tackle the harsh lessons together. However, they overlook each other's skills because when that result is shown, "You better not have hard feelings for whoever wins"--?
Yume has passed the audition, and now she is filled with so much motivation to create an amazing CD. But, her release date clashes with the release date of Hime Shiratori's CD, who is one of the S4 members. Even though Laura and Koharu worry about her, Yume proceeds to prepare for the date without worrying but...
"The Lucky Seven of Four Star Academy" is where if you collect every wish, something will come true! Yume and Laura, start looking for these wishes, but they can't find the seventh "Tundra Songstress" who is nowhere to be found. Meanwhile, Yuzu Nikaidō of S4 is at an event, and announces that her show is going to be replaced by another idol who is about to make a guest appearance.
For the first time ever, Yume, Laura, Mahiru and Koharu are invited to "Rainbow Pastry Shop" which is actually Ako's home. Everyone eats some sweets, and as Yume watches an album of someone's early childhood, the next door neighbor, Reina comes in saying "I want to bake a cake together"...
Tsubasa Kisaragi from S4 describes the main event of this festival to be "Broadway Dream". On the stage for a dance show, people are hard at work behind the scenes doing things like creating a production and doing a certificate course, which is all being done for one student. As this is their first time experiencing something like this, Yume and the others excitement levels will not drop--!
One of the members of S4, Yuzu Nikaidō appears to be in a good mood for some reason. And that reason is because Lilie Shirogane, the "Songstress of Tundra" is coming back to the school. Lilie is a second year student in the Flower Song Class, as well as being Yuzu's childhood friend. And in response to her fans, Lily will be having a school-wide come-back live--!

Every year, there is a soccer world tournament. Yume, Laura and the others have been scheduled to perform for the halftime show. Furthermore, before the finals, an audition has been organised to pick who shall be in the center. Due to this, Laura has a serious expression on her face that she doesn't normally wear...
Yume's childhood friend, Koharu has something important to tell Yume, but can't say it. However, she can't stay silent forever. Not wanting to cause too much attention, Koharu decides to say it. Yume is confused about this sudden talk, and realises that it's better to not be sad, so she and Laura decide to come up with a plan for Koharu.
Four Star Academy announces that they will be holding an Autumn festival. The event's theme is "A unit of three", which is said to help form a unit, even if the members are in different classes or are different ages. After hearing this announcement, Mahiru Kasumi, a first year student in the Moon Beauty Class decides to aim high. In response to Mahiru, Tsubasa Kisaragi from S4 gives her a suggestion.
Yume Nijino, a first year in the Song class, is suddenly chosen to form a unit with Yuzu Nikaidō, a member of S4, for the Autumn festival. Ako Saotome, a first year in the Drama class is also chosen. Both Yuzu and Ako are ready to perform however, Yume is having anxiety about failing on stage again...
Laura Sakuraba, a first year student in the Song Class, can't help but wonder why she can't win against Yume. Before she can figure it out, she gets asked if she could accept a job for the academy. And this job is all about supporting Lilie Shirogane, a second year student in the Song Class. What is this new feeling Laura feels when she watches Lilie's Aikatsu! routine--?
As Mahiru is offered her own regular feature in a fashion magazine, she comes across two rude ganguro high school girls, Motoko and Eiko, scolding them for littering. The next day, the girls and their leader, Sumiko, come to Mahiru for advice on how best to wear make-up. With her various hair and make-up tips, Mahiru manages to help the girls show off their true beauty without excessive products. As Mahiru becomes inspired to use her magazine feature for make-up lessons, she further trains the three girls to be her models at a fashion show showing off their transformations.
Still worried about her power kicking in, Yume asks Hime for a full explanation about what is happening to her. Hime explains how Hotaru was the first to develop this power, the side effects of which led to her losing her voice and suddenly retiring. Having noticed Hotaru's suffering more than anyone else, Moroboshi noticed the symptoms in both Hime and Yume and took it upon himself to stop them ending up the same way. Becoming more afraid upon hearing this, Yume confides about her power to Rola, who encourages her to become a stronger rival. The next day, Moroboshi suddenly tasks Yume with appearing as a surprise guest in Hime's concert, serving as a trial to help her overcome her ordeal with her own strength. Noticing her fear about going up on stage, Hime gives Yume her Premium Rare dress to encourage her. Although Yume makes it through the performance without relying on her power, she remains worried as to whether she'll be able to sing on her own.
Moroboshi arranges for Yume to hold a solo concert, threatening to expel her if she cannot satisfy 90% of the audience. As Yume feels her back up against the wall, Hime sends her to a flower shop run by Hotaru. Hotaru explains her experiences with her power and how it led to her losing her voice, regretting that she never appreciated her own natural talent. Reminded of the self-confidence that comes from the support of others, Yume seeks out help from her friends to prepare for her concert and soon returns to her normal self. With everyone's support, Yume manages to perform a successful concert under her own ability, overcoming her need to rely on her power and managing to clear Moroboshi's conditions.
The admins prepare to hold a party for Christmas Eve with a stream of S4's concert, encouraging Yume to put on a performance of her own alongside Rola, Mahiru, and Ako. After checking with M4's plans, the girls manage to set up their concert at the shopping district. After everyone's individual events turn out successfully, Subaru starts to develop feelings for Yume.
After hosting a New Year's show, the S4 girls look back on how Yume and the others have grown over the past year, contemplating who is likely to be chosen for the upcoming S4 Selection. After visiting the shrine with her friends, Yume is invited to have tea with Hime, who shows her the Tree of Bonds that represent the bonds between S4 members.
Overhearing a conversation between Moroboshi and Anna about the school being in financial crisis, Lily offers to represent Yottsuboshi Academy in a Russian brand designer contest which is offering a sponsorship for the winner. As Lily clears all the challenges ahead of her and reaches the final three, she starts to develop a fever but refuses to retire from the running. Having been concerned for her health, Yume and Rola make their way through snowy weather to deliver some medicine and coffee to Lily, giving her the energy to complete a design for the final round and win the contest. Two weeks later, Lily launches her new brand, Gothic Victoria, with Yume and the others helping to get her shop ready for its opening day. However, she decides to wait to make a Premium Rare Dress until she becomes a member of S4.
The girls star in yet another drama, titled Aikatsu Detectives! The Princess Diamond Incident. As phantom thieves known as the Shadow Stars plot to steal Hime's Princess Diamond, Ako joins Tsubasa, Yuzu, Yozora, and Mahiru as part of an investigation team guarding the diamond at a party. Despite detectives being place everyhere, the diamond gets stolen under everyone's noses, which Tsubasa quickly deduces wasn't the work of the Shadow Stars. As witnesses are questioned, Ako notices that Yuri shouldn't have been able to legibly write a poster after her right hand was injured during the theft, deducing that she is the real thief. Yuri attempts to escape but is thwarted by Ako and Tsubasa, later discovering that the Shadow Stars had manage to steal the diamond from her. Despite this, Ako is praised by Tsubasa for her efforts.
The school holds the Star Catching Festival, in which each class must use their talents to win different areas by earning votes from the townsfolk. As each of the classes win areas in different ways, the event culminates in a tiebreaker performance between Tsubasa and Yozora. Although the weather gets cloudy halfway through, Yozora manages to use her performance to fill the sky with stars and a dazzling moon to win the festival for the Beauty Class.
Yuzu decides that whoever can keep up with her dancing will be her partner in a music video, but no one in the Dance Class is able to keep up with her.
Yume Nijino, first-year student of Song Class in Four Star Academy, gets an offer to perform in "The Best Music Show", a popular TV show. Thinking this is the chance to get herself known around the world, Yume gets all fired up. But, Subaru Yūki, the idol who is going to co-star with Yume, says something unusual to her....
Due to the fact that the S4 Selection that is coming up in Spring is getting closer, Laura Sakuraba, first-year student of the Song Class, becomes nervous. She is doing all she can do, but still feels like she is lacking something.... Mahiru Kasumi, first-year student of the Beauty Class, also feels the same thing. Together, thinking that being on the stage is the closest shortcut to their growth, they form a group to open an event...!
Ako Saotome, first-year student of the Theater Class, is thinking about getting her own special dress. To do that, she needs to be successful on a big stage and get a special grade up glitter. But, there is no stage that is free inside or outside the academy. After a lot of effort, Ako finally finds a free stage, but...?!
Finally, Four Star Academy's biggest event, the "S4 Selection", has begun. First year Ako Saotome of the Theatre Class asserts her goal of beating the current S4 and becoming the new S4. The feeling is the same for Yume and the other first years. Using all of her power, Ako challenges current S4 member Tsubasa Kisaragi.
In the S4 Selection of the Beauty Class, "the first ever sister showdown in the history of Four Star Academy" has garnered great interest. Challenging current S4 member Yozora Kasumi is her very own little sister, first year Mahiru Kasumi. Mahiru has been working hard all this time in order to surpass Yozora. Has the time come for her efforts to finally bear fruit--!?
The S4 Selection of the Song Class begins, with the students to take the stage and perform one after another. Among them, second year admin Lilie Shirogane's stage is quite wonderful. However, having witnessed this performance, first year Laura Sakuraba becomes uneasy...
Finally, the time has come for Yume to take the stage. Challenging the current S4 member Hime Shiratori, in a serious stage in which she's risking everything... Yume is worried, unsure how to go about her performance. In that moment, she receives a phone call from a certain someone. Here and now, Yume shines in her own special way, and the curtain rises upon her full power stage---!
The S4 Selection has finished, and the appointment ceremony for the new S4 takes place. After the graduation ceremony, a "Thank you party" from S4?---They hold a meeting, planning a performance to show gratitude to the teachers and students who have supported them. Gratitude... hearing that word, Yume comes up with something.
