I’m thinking though that she’s a sleeper agent.

This is the way to do a remake. You can change the characters appearances, even change their sexes. I'll even admit the new one are more complex, more interesting. But you leave the lore, the mythology intact. You add something new and interesting.

Chances are you will attract both, old and new fans.
