The Nerdist himself, Chris Hardwick, celebrates all things nerdy in his first Comedy Central special. Hipsters beware: there is no irony in Chris’s affinity for Captain Picard, Comic-Con and the Atari 2600. Mandroid features candid tales that cover virginity, chess club, shark vaginas, awkward childhood, awkward adulthood (which in his case is an extension of childhood) and a myriad of other topics which may or may not include Quidditch. This extended and uncensored DVD is a wonderland of discovery, and if you take but one life lesson from it, let it be “Don’t f**k animals”.
Just let that word roll around in your mouth for a moment. It describes that perfect blend of things that simultaneously make us laugh and make us squirm on a cellular level. It’s a delicate tightrope to walk, and one that Hardwick expertly toes in his new special. With “the energy of SpongeBob dipped in cocaine water,” Hardwick covers a wealth of ground, including how he first discovered where babies come from, how uniquely terrible music was in the ’90s, and how inappropriate humor helped him cope with the loss of his father.
