The Phantom Time Hypothesis suggests that 297 years -- 614 CE to 911 CE -- never actually happened. It's the brainchild of a couple of German historians, and suggests a conspiracy between the Catholic Church and some major imperial forces, a conspiracy only revealed centuries later when the western world began transitioning from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar.
