Beautiful acting all around, especially impressed by Oliver and Alwyn. The whole Frances and Nick quiet interaction was really interesting to watch and leaves a lot of development space to explore their inner worlds, whose surface we've only probably just scratched. That final "we could try, though" and eye contact sealed the deal perfectly.
Inevitable comparisons to Normal People arise, and tho just a fresh impression from just this intro episode - writing's still good but a little less poignant in expressing the characters' feelings with few, hard-hitting words. What seems to be just as good is the unspoken part: emotions expressed (or unexpressed) through physicality, little gestures, silences and gazes. That was superb to watch and it's one of the things that mostly draws me to a series, in that you really have to watch. Words will only say a part of what's going on and you get so much more by observing. And if you'd watch again, you'd get something more or different from the previous time.
And isn't that what's reality all about? Relationships, friendships, casual interactions... you'll never be able to get everything a person is feeling or wants to say just by being a keen observer and attentive listener, but you can just have such a richer and more well rounded experience of this human encyclopedia flowing in front of us. I love productions that allow me to exercise this skill
