    Crimewatch started its run in November 1986 and is the longest running English docu-drama series in Singapore. The programme showcases crimes solved by the Singapore Police Force, features appeals for unsolved cases and dispenses crime prevention advice to promote public awareness towards trending crimes.

    Illegal Immigrants
    Rescued at sea off Sembawang. On 8 Dec 2003 at 1.17am, Police Coast Guard picked up four illegal immigrants from the sea off Sembawang. The three Myanmese men and PRC woman were trying to swim across the Johor Straits into Singapore, with nothing more than a child's float and a black plastic bag of belongings. They had no legal papers. For that, they had paid unscrupulous agents $800 to $1000 each.

    Murder of Shahrul Hameed s/o Malikkan Pilla.

    On 16 Oct 03 at about 7.40pm, 72-year-old Shahrul Hameed, a security guard, took over the night shift at a warehouse complex at 6 Toh Guan Road East. The next morning, at about 8.14am, the cleaner found him. He was dead.

    On 17 Feb 04 at about 1pm, a 60-year-old woman was approached by a stranger for help in carrying some items. They were joined by a second, who offered to buy the items. The first leaves to get more of the items to sell to the second. A third man appears and offers to buy the items from the second at a higher price.

    Credit Card Fraud
    Crimewatch offers crime prevention advice on a credit card scam, where the conman would call up unsuspecting credit card account holders and ask for their credit card account number and the three-digit card.

    Operation "Firestone"
    Manhunt for SARS robber. When SARS broke out in the middle of last year, members of the public were advised to wear masks to protect themselves from the deadly virus. Many did. But some had more than just personal protection in mind. On 13 April 2003 at about 7pm, a lone robber hit a betting centre at Clementi West St 2. 10 minutes later, he robbed a goldsmith across the road at Ginza Plaza. He was masked and armed with a 'gun'.

    On 19th June 2002 more than $62,000 was siphoned off from 28 bank accounts via the internet. How did the culprit break into the victim's systems? Does this mean that internet banking is unsafe? Are there ways we can protect ourselves from being unwitting victims of the same crime?

    Hawkers Cheated
    This scam first surfaced in April 2003. There have been more than 35 cases reported since. The victims are hawkers at food centres or shop owners.

    Taxi con
    In March 2003, a pair of cheats decided to make taxi drivers the primary targets in crime spree. The cheats would con the drivers into handing over their cash and mobile phones on false pretences. The pair was finally apprehended by G Div.
