9.5/10. Stellar stuff. The juxtaposition of the family drama in the wake of Jake's heart attack and the ridiculousness of having wacky morning DJs at school all weak led to some great sarcastic humor and the kind of jabs at drek like morning radio that makes Daria so funny, but also some great character-based comedy at home.
Every one of the Morgendorffers is in character. Both Helen and Quinn drop everything, Helen so that she can devote herself to Jake's recovery even when that means putting up with her mother-in-law and try to cook, Quinn so that she can play Operation in the guise of learning how to be a cardiac surgeon. It's sweet in it's misaimed sort of way. Jake as the constant worry wart fearing his death (and seeing everything as a sign of it), wanting his kids to feel loved, and jumping for joy at the idea that he outlived his father was great. I especially enjoyed Jake and Ruth's little Tennessee Williams play near the end of the episode.
And as always, even though we've never (I think) seen Ruth before, she's a fully formed character with details to her personality that make sense. The way Daria talked her down, cheered up her dad, and absolutely destroyed the DJs with what makes her morning mental, was all classic Daria. More sharp writing and characterization from a show not lacking in either.
