Daria: Season 4

4x06 I Loathe a Parade

Enjoyable stuff. Again, it's shaded by knowing where Tom's story goes, but I liked the premise of the episode -- Daria gets sent on a random errand and gets pulled into a series of mini-adventures despite her best efforts. There's a Ferris Bueler, or to go a little broader in my Hughes-references, Baby's Day Out quality to the setup. It also features a number of blasts from the show's past, from Lawndale's art teacher, to Tad Gupty, to the homeschool kid that Daria was pseudo-interested in for an episode.

There were plenty of laughs to be had (especially involving the fashion club -- there's something about Sandy arguing with Tad that was hilarious), and defrosting the relationship between Tom and Daria worked well as he offers a slightly more optimistic, if still cynical take on the world that works as a nice counterpoint to Daria's bleaker view. The episode lays it on a little thick at the end with Tom's furtive glances, but I like the slow burn.
