[6.7/10] This is the first real lesser light of season 2, and it’s not even bad, really. The whole Elf quarantine thing isn’t bad as an instigating event. But the humor just wasn’t there and I wasn’t really into Elfo’s big quest.
There seemed to be a theme of people telling tall tales or rambling stories, and the difference between Handsome Wade and Pops being that, however boring Pops’s stories, his were true, in contrast to Wade’s book-purloined fibs. Still, the episode just couldn’t wring much from that, either in terms of comedy or drama, as the boat trip through the jungle ended up seemed boring overall.
Business picked up just a little once they got to the Orge zone. For one thing, Bean’s fire gag was a good one. For another, while it wasn’t exactly funny, seeing Elfo going badass on the Ogres was an interesting twist. And I was intrigued by the hint that the Orge Queen is his real mom (or grandmother?), given his dad’s traveling salesman ways and joke about a preference for large women running in the family.
Luci playing plague nurse in exchange for the Elves’ gold felt like a reheated Bender scheme, but it had enough minor laughs to satisfy a comic relief B-story.
Overall, this one just didn’t hit the heights that other episodes this season had. There’s some good lore and some good action, but the episode itself is a little on the dull side, and the laughs were scanter than you’d like.
Wow, Elfo is a hero. :astonished:

Is this show supposed to be funny or is it just an animated fantasy story without too much adventure?
