I just (manually) imported my history for this show from MyAnimeList.
Writing a detailed review would be impossible now without rewatching the show (I watched it 6 years ago, in 2012), but I can say this: It must be a damn good show, because I watched it all in one day.
Well, it was technically the same day. From my perspective it was two days—first four episodes late at night, then sleep, then finished the show that evening—but even with time to sleep and do other stuff that day, from start to finish, it took me less than 18 hours.
You should probably watch this anime.
This anime sucks
My favorite anime of all time. I am watching it every year at least once.
It was fine till that stupid ending where it got all screwed up, which made it pointless in watching. So eventually, he still loves that girl who violently murders his sis and dad in front of his very own eyes and doesn't hesitate to live under the same roof again, also he doesn't even remember all that from his childhood? Dafuq?! I thought there would be a pretty damn good explanation for that but seriously? Amnesia? My ass!. In his leisure time (we barely see him do anything productive anyways) started an Orphanage (girls only lol) with unlimited funds supplied by source unknown, for all the poor girls living on the street which was quite ridiculous at the beginning parts of the anime. Characters are also bad except for Lucy, take Yuka for example, you'd just wish that she'd die first!
The only good thing about this anime is the violence and the harsh reality we live in. Dunno what the hype is all about this one, I bet its only cuz of the nudity and ecchi content which seems to be the only reason satisfactory for all the lolicons out there.
So enjoyably terrible! Really enjoyed the gore, the story is nonsense of course with annoying characters.
If nudity and gore is the only thing you're after, I'm sure it'll be your cup.
The animation is great for its age, but the writing is just terrible. I guess that the abundant usage of nudity and gore are just fillers to compensate for a lack of substance.

the shows develops so slowsly its always painful to watch, but it always ends leaving your wanting more. i was surprised to see so many good reviews throughout the internet, it is not that good. i have seen until the 10th episode

After you get past the first five or so episodes, the plot picks up and ends up blowing your mind. Thoroughly enjoyed this series.

This is an absolutely fantastic anime that tackles very mature and graphic themes, such as discrimination, abandonment, and just pure suffering. I really liked how all these tiny pieces and story lines tied together from the beginning up until the very end (even the OVA). The relationships between the characters and the support that they build for each other from their own miserable experiences and pain are truly remarkable. It shows that good can come out of such horrible things. I will warn that this anime is incredibly graphic (gore, nudity, abuse, etc) but it's there for good reason. The story is well done and the animation does not really show its age. This is a great watch if you're in the mood for a dark anime.
