The main objective of the programme is to aid people who have a wide range of ailments that they are "too embarrassed" to show to their doctor. The programme can also help viewers self-diagnose at home without attending a doctor's appointment. As well as showing patients' visits to the doctor, the possible effects of certain people's occupations, such as cyclists or football players, are also shown.

First through the doors was 55-year-old Nick. Having suffered with painful haemorrhoids since his early teens, it was only now that he could face the shame to see a doctor. Next up was 24 year-old Alex, sent in by his partner with a case of Athlete’s Foot that he’d had for over two years! His girlfriend had finally had enough of sharing her boyfriend (and her bedroom!) with his ‘stilton’ like condition, declaring that it was ‘Me or the Toe!’ Also through the clinic doors came Charlotte, who was not sure what was normal ‘down below’ there was 20-year-old Victoria with a worrying case of inverted nipples, as well as Nicky who suffered from excessive gas. Last in to the clinic was 46-year-old Dave, whose skin tag brought a somewhat fishy suggestion from Dr Jessen. The first week of surgery also saw the doctors take a detailed look at testicular cancer, so Dr Jessen headed down to Moseley Rugby Club to persuade the team to take matters into their own hands…

There was Rosacea suffering Susan who was so embarrassed about her constant blushing that she couldn’t even face going for a job interview. There was also 47 year-old Gael, whose face was covered in ugly blood blisters – the result of a genetic condition. Finally there was Geoff, who had reached the end of his tether with his severe psoriasis. Due to complications he couldn’t have light therapy, so his last hope is the Embarrassing Illnesses clinic. Dr Jessen also hit a student union bar where he explained how dietary habits were crucial when it came to avoiding bowel cancer.
