People can complain all they want about a weak 5th season or Stannis doing this or that.. but the surprise ending of this episode was just... WOW! It made me forget everything else.
Had goosebumps when Drogon entered the arena! Wow!
The final scene was everything i was asking for, i actually screamed
Altought reading would happen, never ceases to amaze me. The x09 never disappoints
It seems most people who didn't like this episode, didn't like it because it doesn't match with what's in the books. This would also explain why I thought it was a great episode! (Although I can also see what's being said about the directing and odd character development.)
Two words for this great episode:
Emotions and Epicness.
Throughout these 49 episodes, Game of Thrones has featured horrible, strong, heavy scenes. But I don't think any of them come close to the atrocity that Stannis Baratheon allows Melisandre to do with Shireen. It is disturbing to hear the child begging for mercy, begging for her father, and there he is listening to it, unmoved, while the girl is engulfed by the flames. I'm even more surprised because even her mother, who until then hadn't proved to be an exemplary mother, tries to prevent it, feels the pain of it all. But Stannis... I would never be able to root for Roose and Ramsay Bolton, but as I said before: I hope they all kill each other.
Daenerys' first flight on Drogon. WOW! This whole sequence, from the attack to the rescue, was very good. The special effects were below compared to what the series has shown before, but still a great scene.
One of my favorite episodes of TV ever.
did i just saw Khaleesi fly with a dragon. oh my things are turning up in this season finale!
Absolutely loved the ending scene, it almost made me cry.
Epic! Awesome! More is not to say.
Stannis you can go f**ck yourself
It's clear that the writers value shocks and twists over characters with consistent motivations.
Edit: I'll remember Stannis as he was.
I've watched this series from day one and loved it until season 4. When season 5 started, with their major plot changes, I wanted to quit this show but this episode made me loathe this show to the point where I would literally beat up Martin for giving HBO the rights to change the story line this much. I'm personally disappointed with HBO for killing of such a lovable and adorable character in a way that it wasn't possible. Stannis would NEVER agree to such a thing (and if you remembered in the last episode, he turned down Melissandre without thinking twice). Why did the TV show drop in quality? I was ready to bear the fact that Lady Stoneheart wont be in the show (even tho she has a MAJOR influence in the books) but not this major flaw. Stannis is a weak man, unable to endure the seduction of a witch and the only thing that was able to cancel her manipulation was Shireen. For god's sake Selyse had second thoughts, the woman who hated her daughter more than anyone in the world but Stannis didn't, the man who showed so much love and pride in her daughter.
I'm rating this episode 1 because this is the last episode I will ever watch of Game of Thrones. I was able to survive "The Red Wedding" and Oberyn Martell because I knew this was coming but this... THIS... I'm disgusted.
EDIT: If the actress didn't wanna act in the series any more they (HBO) could have at least killed her via Ramsey Snow's 20 men sneak attack or something. This was utterly revolting. :/
Khaleesi you're the fucking queen!
Drogon you're the fucking hero!
Stannis you're a fucking bastard!
NEXT WEEK THE FUCKING SEASON FINALE!!!
you cannot rate something that you haven't watched yet!
Well I love the show but the scene with shireen was unbearable. Her screams still echo in my mind...
Was it all that necessary especially as this isn't in the books at all ?
What does burning a lovable child alive is adding to the show ?
This is disgusting and it adds nothing to the show or to the characters.
One of the best endings ever!
The extremely predictable twists during Dany's parts are ridiculous. It just couldn't have been more obvious and cliche.
Tottally Ninja! But then again I'm a sucker for dragons!
stop d&d harming young girls
This episode is so much more than the show itself. What happened in the final scene of this episode is beyond words. The freedom of a dragon's flight made me feel like I spent my whole life tied to the ground miserable and human.
People can complain all they want about Stannis doing this or that. The surprise ending of this episode was just... WOW!
OH SNAP!! Dragon bodyguard!! LOVED THAT PART!!
Neutral
*Arya story was okay, Mace Tyrell being an idiot with the Iron Bank guy was kind of funny
*Jon stuff was just there, nothing important yet
*Jaime in Dorne
Cons
-Complete and utter annihilation of Stannis and Melisandre characters along with this dumb 20 of Ramsay's good men thing. It's no new thing for the show creators to show a large bias against Stannis when he is legitimately the coolest king in the books but this is just ridiculous.
-Meereen was absolutely idiotic. 100 guys in big ass metal masks and large spears (among other weapons) just happen to sneak into a stadium immediately behind the Queen who only has about 20 guards? Was there no one checking them? Were the Unsullied drunk? Also the dialogue with Hizdahr, Jorah's fight, and the Drogon escape was all cheese to the max. (The CGI flying was pretty funny). The Drogon part is one of those things that seems cool if you don't know how it's supposed to happen, the book version would be both cheaper and cooler. another dumb change.
Holy shit. That was extreme.
First half was kinda boring. Second half very good, just like ep8.
i am disgusted about what the writers are doing to our precious characters, especially in this season, they raped sansa, made sand snakes a porn stars and didn't even say a word about myrcella being queen under the dornish law and now they made stannis burn his own daughter, he would never hurt her, he even said to put her on the iron throne when he dies, there is no redemption from that. i'm not even gonna say about lack of arianne martell, val, lady stoneheart, the young griff and other characters, which are necessary to the plot. writers are using our characters for their own satisfaction, changing them, making them things they would never do. game of thrones changed for worse and to the point where it's not an interesting and amazing story with beautiful scenery anymore, it's just a fanfiction made by d&d full of violence, rape and nudity.
Game of Thrones has jumped the shark. :|
While the 8th episode felt pretty great, I didn't really like the direction in which the show was going. I thought I could bare with it, but this... this was just stupid.
Nevermind the changes from the books and the shock value scenes gratuitously injected into the plot. This entire episode felt rushed, stale and contrived, and badly directed even. The entire Dorne sub-plot is cartoonish; The Stannis scene itself was a nonsensical abomination; Tyrion has been reduced to a trinket, while the whole Daenerys part felt staged, forced and lacked any weight or tension whatsoever. Editing, cinematography and special effects all seemed more amateurish than ever before.
I felt like I was watching a mid-week late night filler, like Game of Thrones started referencing itself and making the rounds.
I used to watch the show because it wasn't like all other television productions. It wasn't perfect, but you got the feeling that the writers didn't make up things as they went along. Characters were fleshed out and made surprising (but understandable) decisions. The story was well-paced and relatable.
All of that is not true anymore.
Looks like I'll finally get around to reading the books.
Great yet sad Episode with Fantastic ending
and other very cool episode! !!! more and more
Best tv show of all time, hands down best episode of the season #drogon
I was hoping for Ser Davos to save ypung Shireen... but at least we had the chance to finally see Drogon and Dany riding him! I like how they managed to work on that scene.
kinda name of the book
Stannis is not the Mannis anymore. :pensive:
The murder of Princess Shireen was the last straw for me. The silver-lining was that she moved on to a better place, away from those who did this to her, those vile, subhuman mongrels that deserved to be deskinned and raped w/ sharp sticks, until they stopped breathing.
Alliser Thorne: "You have a good heart, Jon Snow. It'll get us all killed."
Despite all the crazy things that happened in this episode, the only thing I could think of by the end, other than the obvious, was: AAAAAAYY JORAH'S BACK
The episode should have ended after the burning. Not that the rest was bad but after that moment, the audience was too distraught to savor the ending.
1) Stannis, Selyse and Melisandre are monsters for having killed Shireen in such a cruel way, Stannis seemed to have planned it since he sent Davos away as Davos would certainly oppose this plan, I have no idea how he could have murdered his only daughter he claimed to love. They are worse even than Cersei who at least loved her children. They are just as bad as Ramsey.
2) The scene with Drogon was impressive, though I guessed the dragon must come since it was the only way for them to be rescued, though Dany escapes on the back of the dragon on her own, a bit selfishly leaving the rest to their still uncertain fates. I know they survive from the spoilers but otherwise it is not so clear.
I predicted that a dragon gonna come and burn them muhfuckas, i knew it. But i ain't knew she was gon hop on that muhufucka and dip lol, like what about yo people.
And wadafuk is wrong with stannis, burning his daughter alive smh, he is way too obsessed with power. Now i hate melisandre and cersei equally, i want them to die a horrible death.
Oh my, what an episode. This is just getting better and better. Can't believe Stannis though for sacrificing his own daughter in such a cruel way. I hope he gets his comeuppance.
Shireen, my heart! And the episode ending was very obvious, I don't know how people thought it was a surprise.
At first Stannis bored me. Then he became somewhat interesting, if only because he was so stalwart on his mission to become king. But to have his daughter burned at the stake? Yeesh. Thanks for ruining his character entirely. Asshat doesn't deserve to be king. And poor Shireen, sweetest child ever.
Also can we PLEASE have done with this inane Sons of the Harpy subplot? I care less than half a shit about any of it.
(via TV Blaze for WP)it says I am already watching something, but nothing is playing
This is fucking ridicules, this season is really POS, only highlight is 30 minutes of last episode with Jon Snow
Stannis "no need for water when you're burning your daughter" Baratheon
Stannis Baratheon fucking bastard. The amazing end of the episode is not enough, fuck off Stannis.
Worst E09 yet!!! tried to cover 2 many storylines..... Worst Season yet!!! Just making it up now or so it seems....
Any spoilers about the episode yet? I need to know because in 5 hours i'm giving my exams so i have no time!
Oh hell no! They didn't kill my bb Shireen! :'(
cool serie.... one of the best ever!!

To be honest I didn't care that much about what the Red Womand had been doing so far. But killing Shireen? No, now I want Davos to fucking kill her.
I'm even surprised that Stannis' army is still with him even after doing that.
