"Awe.... and I faught Thanos"
The scream I gave with Katniss cosplay. Hahahahhahahah LOL. The whole LARP thing was also very funny, especially the guy imitating the sound of swords battling. This episode brought out the good humor that was lacking in the first one.
[7.0/10] Another episode that isn’t bad, but isn’t especially great either. It’s just square in the middle.
I’ll say this, I loved the interlude where Clint goes to play with the Larpers to get his Ronin suit back. There’s something so fun about him carrying a fake sword and just casually “slaying” his opponents in slow-motion while they overact in response. His fake “trial by combat” was a blast, and I like the idea that having suffered through so much over the years (including a wicked case of tinnitus, apparently), part of his journey here is learning to have fun and enjoy himself again.
Likewise, I’m not sure how I feel about the meta-commentary on how Hawkeye is the most low-key, least marketable Avenger. It’s a little too cute by half. But I do appreciate the continuing focus on the nature of celebrity and how Clint is uncomfortable with it, doesn’t care about selling things, and is a little over it all. There’s meat there, and I don’t know if the show is going to sink its teeth into it, like so many one-eyed pups chowing down on some pizza, but it’s intriguing nonetheless.
That said, I’m at least warming to Kate Barton a little. I continue to find her oblivious “straighten up and fly right” mom + probably evil stepdad situation to be too stock and unengaging. But she’s got a sly, deadpan sort of snark vibe that I appreciate. She and Clint don’t have the fun dynamic that, say, Sam and Bucky do. But him as the no-nonsense dad, and her as the wry rebel has some juice to it. I’m not totally sold, but there’s room to grow there.
Still, her stepdad is so cheesily evil to me that I’m desperately hoping it’s a swerve, even though all of my comics knowledge suggests it isn’t. Tony Dalton is a good actor! He’s great in Better Call Saul. But Jack is just such a nigh-literally mustache-twirling bad guy so far that he’s almost wholly uninteresting.
The same goes for the “track suit mafia.” There’s not much of an animating problem in this one. Jack is an obvious baddie, and the Eastern Bloc Bro Brigade has little going for them either. So what obstacles are we supposed to care about here? There’s something to be said for Clint’s “catch and release” ploy to get inside the bad guys’ compound, but it’s thin gruel.
I guess we have Clint’s promise to his daughter to make it home for Xmas, but again, very generic as these things go.
Overall, this feels more like a piece moving episode than anything that really deepens the characters or their situation. Clint playing temporary mentor to Kate has something to it, but the show can’t yet find a worthy challenge to throw at them. Kate’s story especially feels very rote and facile. Hoping that with more throat clearing out of the way, this one improves.
Haha, the tracksuit mafia guys are hilarious bro.
To anyone wondering who that was at the end. That was echo, who it was recently announced is getting her own mcu show
I've enjoyed Hailee as Kate so far. She's got the sarcastic and annoying little sister vibe locked down.
So far it's been a swift character setup, so I think it'll get pretty fun in the next couple eps.
(I think the Clint family stuff is... less fun; I get that's the man's story arc, but it's always been less interesting to me)
Kate is getting a bit annoying and the Tracksuit Mafia guys are facepalm-level-stupid.
But, it has it's moments so I'm in.
Okay, this is better. Kate's fangirling is hilarious, and there were a lot of pretty good one-liners.
And I'll kick myself later if I'm wrong, but they're making Swordsman/the fiancé so sketchy, so naturally, I'm convinced he's not a bad guy and maybe also fancies himself a vigilante.
Was it just me and Echo's intro was really anticlimactic. They should have shown her in action, if we had to wait until Episode 3, that would've been fine by me. Or you know, I have no idea what I'm talking about. I just think she would have been so good in Netflix's Daredevil.
hawkeye pretending to kill people in slow motion is something i never though i'd see and yet
this episode had me laughing so hard, the tracksuit mafia guys are hilarious, and the way Clint interacted with them at the end of the episode was just so good
that part when Kate is texting someone is sooooooooo obvious and soooo fake it literally pissed me off because this is so obvious and its marvel, u cant do that.
Lots of great stuff again, and this time it's mostly centered around Clint as well meaning we get to see him in the spotlight as the show explores what it's like to be the most human Avenger. Clint Barton, despite his limited screentime in the movies, as always struck a cord with me as one of the most relatable and ultimately likable characters in the roster, and this episode plays that to it's advantage story wise. The LARPing subplot, while also very funny, is a great example on how Clint's sensibilities are far more grounded then something like a Tony Stark or Carol Danvers, and seeing him extremely uncomfortable with his own fame feels very real and human.
But honestly, this series is leaning more into being an origin story for Kate, which isn't a bad thing in the slightest when her stuff is just as excellent. The direction is kind of obvious where it's going but I see a couple of curveballs coming in true Fraction fashion. The fact that each major beat is a "one bad thing after the next" kind of setpiece makes this even better, as those kinds of narratives are an absolute delight. Another winner.
Clint at that roleplay thing made the episode for me
Some few little production errors 1. when she send a sms, she just press a couple of keys but magically that forms full sentences, 2. The dog is a street dog, but it looks very clean after they leave the apartment on fire. Maybe it isn't a street dog?
Well, that was better. I don't know why the series kept our protagonists separate in the pilot episode—it just left me waiting for this one. But as much as I enjoy Clint and Kate's dynamic, I wish this series was more character-focused and less plot-focused.
Typically, when you set up a story, you start with the characters and focus more on the plot after you set up the characters. And well, I just feel like these characters aren't set up properly??? Like, this episode has Hawkeye doing errands while Kate sits around in an apartment, but I still don't understand Kate's motivations in any given scene.
At the moment, it doesn't seem like Kate's gonna go through a character arc either. When Clint was fixing her wound, I thought she'd start seeing him as the father figure she needs, but it didn't happen? It's fine, but I only wish I could understand what Kate is thinking during any scene.
As one final criticism: when Kate calls out Clint for being so "self-serious" when she doesn't know him (they haven't had any deep, personal conversations yet), we don't even see him doing this. In the previous episode—and throughout this one—he's being the coolest father to his kids.
Okay, to end on what I liked about this episode, I appreciate how it's just a comedy . The LARP scene was the funniest and cutest thing; I wish more stuff like this would happen more in the MCU. Clint and Kate are finally interacting, and as much as I dislike all the busy work, it's nice to see our two heroes talk to each other.
I know this sounds like I hated it, but it's about quality over quantity. I wasn't sitting in front of the TV with my parents like a gremlin. The episode flew by, and I had a fun time. I just wish it were better written than it is currently. Because right now, it just feels like things are happening instead of building organically.
2nd episode is a bit more of a slog, after the fun first episode. This is episode is still a lot of fun, with most of that fun coming from the Hawkeye - Bishop interactions. But there's a few choices that felt off to me, the main one being a LARPing side story that feels like a bad choice. Still a lot of fun overall and the potential is here. Need a great 3rd episode though.
OMG! so boring. I literally fast forward through nearly half of this. Hawkeye deserves better than this.
Hopefully they don’t try to shock us by killing off Clint. With Black Widow’s sister now after him it won’t be shocking. Also it is obvious Kate will take his place.
I liked the humor in the mix, especially the LARPing and Clint's overall impatient exasperation, but he also played the whole "You're young" card way too long and too hard. Why the overkill?
This is a lot hammier than I thought it was going to be. Which isn't necessarily a problem; it's just not what I expected.
It started off quite cheesy/cringey (which was already hard) and then it became increasingly dumb/stupid, unfortunately.
It has it's moments and is kinda fun/entertaining but overall it just isn't really good IMO (I hope it'll get better again).
Literally the worst episode of any show I've watched this year. Only thing I positively liked was, "Sorry for scaring you into telling the truth." Otherwise, it was a total waste of time.
The 48 Hours Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte dynamic doesn't work. She's annoying.

The first two episodes are really slow. Hope it picks up soon.
