[7.7/10] Very enjoyable episode. The peak of it is, as the title reflects, Mac and Charlie trying to make a cohabitation bit between their moms work out. Their attempt to spin Golden Girls out of Mrs. Mac’s terse gruffness and Mrs. Kelly’s OCD phobias is hilarious. From Mac interpreting Mrs. Mac’s grunts to Charlie echoing his mom’s fears about dogs eating her face, their efforts to turn this into something that works, and the fact that miraculously the two moms fall into a bit of symbiosis, is outstanding.
Frank trying to take care of Dee while she’s sick, just so that she’ll return the favor when he’s older is good stuff too. It’s more great physical comedy from Kaitlin Olson, as her Mr. Magoo-esque adventures and delivery of her pleas for Josh Grobin are fantastic. Frank’s half-assed overparenting being worse than his half-assed underparenting is a nice touch too.
And I like Dennis floating between both stories as a “fixer” in this one. HIs efforts to play negoitator between the Macs and Kellys, and his misguided advice for Frank escalates both situations nicely. And the misadventures of Poppins the dog are fun as well.
Overall, a nicely done episode, where my only real complaint is that the episode just kind of ends when it feels like a neater resolution was in order.
