Another solid episode for the main characters. I was already feeling bad for Satowa, but man did today's episode really flesh out her character. Learning about how Satowa from an early age started playing the koto solely to cheer up her mother, after she was forced to take up the koto school after her husband died, and she was being judged by her peers as an inferior head, and just watching Satowa and her mother's relationship deteriorate, as her mom became infatuaetd with proving everyone wrong and fostering a great houzuki heir at the expense of her daughter's happiness was painful. And with the national peice, Satowa poured her heart out into that performance, trying to reach her mother and beg for the happy relationship they used to have, but Satowa's mom couldnt hear it, and just further drove Satowa into hating the koto. And now, she's excommunicated her own daughter from the Houzuki school. It completely makes sense why Satowa would choose this school club to play the koto, hearing people having fun playing the koto, something Satowa has lacked the experience of for years now, pulled Satowa into the club. And now, she's able to enjoy the koto again with people she cares about. Also man, Chika is such a respectable dude, with him giving Satowa time to talk about her tramautic past when she's ready, not prying into why Satowa lives alone in this small house, even after hearing Satowa's heartfelt plea to her mother on that natioanl competition recording. Also, although it was expected, im glad Satowa revealing her past to the koto club just strengthed all their relaitonships, it really shows how tightknit everyone is in the club. And, although I still dont like her, now I understand Kurusu better: she was someone who was backstabbed by her friend out of a petty desire for her boyfriend, and after feeling like it couldve been her fault that happened, now she wants to prove that all relationships are like that, built on flimsy and weak foundations. But, after seeing a group of people who actually looked close and had a genuine bond, she secretly wanted to experience that, and thats the real reason behind her joining the koto club. This whoel attempt to tear apart the koto club was really Kurusu trying to see if they were actually as close and tightknit as they appeared to be. Man, i wish I could be as nice as Kurata, I dont know if I could give Kurusu a chance to be open and honest, and join the club she tried tearing apart. But it looks like she's now making a genuine effort to be apart of the koto club.
