MY THOUGHTS ON SEASON 7:
-WARNING: Spoilers Below-
WOW Yet again Line of Duty delivers a magnificent season for British Televisions. Yet again they managed to cast some brilliant actors and actresses for this season and brought some old actors and actresses back from previous seasons which worked very well with the show. This season constantly kept you wanting more and left you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Unfortunately though I won't be able to give JUST a positive review for this season because it wasn't all positive. I'd say out of all the seasons that this show has blessed us with this was one of my least favourites. As good as it was there was a LOT of flaws and it left me with an extremely sour taste in my mouth. You can definitely tell this season was created during Covid which isn't the blame of anyone, it was just extremely unfortunate for everyone involved.
What mainly left me disappointed was how each episode lead you up to this massive explosive ending and you'd get extremely excited and tense and then BOOM the reveal either didn't happen or it was extremely disappointing. A lot of the cliff hangers ended up having very poor reveals and it left me with a sour taste in my mouth - I'll get more into detail about a specific reveal next.
The biggest reveal of the entire series was finally revealed at the end of this season and unfortunately it was the worst reveal I have ever seen in any television show... and I've watched a LOT of TV Shows. The only hope that I have left is if they renew the show for an additional season but at the moment it isn't looking too promising. Having DI Ian Buckells be revealed as H was such a poor decision, it was like they tried too hard to be smart and it ended up not working out too well. Unfortunately after the finale it was revealed that there was a lot of political undertones which made me feel like the show was just a massive political statement and it left an even more sour taste in my mouth.
Overall I enjoyed the season but it won't be remembered fondly. If the show started with this pace then I wouldn't have continued the series. The actors all performed incredibly, they were just let down by the writing and directing which isn't their fault. I don't see how they're possibly going to make another season after this but I'll sit back and wait.
Not the greatest season of the show, in fact for me it's the weakest one but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's still an intense, nail-baiting and well-rounded thriller/mystery series filled with jaw-dropping plot-twists. The ending episode is not as bad people on the internet has made it out to be although the resolution is a little bit underwhelming and disappointing. If the show ends here, it's a nice closure to the characters and the plotline, but if we get another season then I'm more than excited.
Still the BEST cop show ever.
It's been so long since season 5 you forget what has gone on previously, but some excellent script writing adds little reminders to character backgrounds all the way back to season 1. If you haven't watched the previous seasons then worth catching up on those first

Very strong season that falls completely flat in the final episode. A pity.
