[7.6/10] Another good episode from this season. It’s laudable that this show didn’t just race away from the “Superior Spider-Man” arc, but instead is taking at least a little time to show Peter having to clean up his life. Dealing with the friendships that Otto broke, the relationships he severed, nd the important parts of Pete’s life that he put in disarray helps give the events of the past several episodes more weight, and helps make PEter’s journey back to normalcy more worthwhile.
My favorite scene in the whole episode is Peter going to visit Otto in his hospital bed and pouring his soul out a bit. Ana Maria arguing that Ock did some good, and Peter just being human and struggling with how to put his life back together is an endearing moment for all involved.
The main story isn’t bad either. Peter trying to go to the Avengers for a little solace and understanding, only to find that they’re in trouble is a good story catalyst. I don’t know how I feel about “The Regent” (who is clearly just August Roman, somehow using The Cellar to channel his captives’ powers). For one thing, it feels like a cheap mystery given that we’re introduced to a suspicious new character in the same episode, and him being able to muster all those powers seems a little too unbelievable and/or a gamebreaker.
But that said, I like having Spidey’s banter back, and him using Ock’s technology to find a way to stand up to the Regent works as a nice metaphor for Peterbeing able to find the good in what Ock did with his life, and put it to good use. The prospect of another Avengers team-up (one where Peter perhaps has to confront his obvious crush on Ms. Marvel) is intriguing, and the continued effort to get back to how things used to be is a compelling one.
Overall, I appreciate the show taking time out to recover from its last major arc, and putting Peter through the wringer while humanizing him in the aftermath.
