Ingrid is in jail, being the main suspect of Jan's murder. Joy and Eric are reinstated at MCW, though none of the others welcome the latter. Astrid and Marielle concern themselves about a young woman from Croatia. Reini welcomes Paul van der Voort into her home when his son Joost is admitted to MCW with an indeterminable illness.
Joost van der Voort is being released, but now his father Paul is in hospital because he's showing signs of senility. During the trial against Ingrid, lawyer Helenberg tries find evidence against Eric Koning. A young Egyptian girl is forced to be circumcised before her marriage by her mother.
Arend-Jan and Marielle are both bidding on his family's former stately home. Astrid discovers who Jan's real killer is and that she was the intended victim. Reini offers a place to stay for the recently divorced Annemarie and her daughter Kim.
The rivalry between the sons of Arend-Jan and Marielle gets stronger. Dick asks Annemarie out to dinner. Paul van der Voort has to be admitted to a home so he can be properly cared for.

Little Christiaan visits Ingrid at MCW, but still has to go back to his foster parents. John Hoekstra ends up in a coma after a botched drug deal. His father Arend-Jan suspects Sham Abid. Victor is dying, but asks Liza to marry him while they still can.

A tumor is found in Reini's breast. Sham tries to commit suicide in a jail cell. Homeless Simone reveals the secret of her years of pain to her former best friends. Jeffrey also has a confession to make to his mother Marielle.
Reini's tumor has already spread into several body parts. John finally awakens from his coma. Victor is ready to die and has peace with Liza being with Bert when he'll be gone.

Arend-Jan manages to prove that Christiaan's foster parents are inadequate. This causes Ingrid to call of her wedding to Eric at the altar. Leo Koning convinces Eric to steal Dick's gen-experiment. But when he breaks some flasks during the burglary, dangerous chemicals are released and threaten to infect the entire hospital.
