Mr. Sunshine: Season 1

1x22 Episode 22

The show is becoming disappointing at this stage. The greater historic events are rushed, there is little development for the characters and most events are too much borderline absurd for my taste.

And honestly, they should have been able to end the show by now. This feels unnecessarily stretched, which seems to be a common issue for k-dramas when they reach their final.

Utterly ridiculous. Mr. Sunshine took its sweet time to develop the characters and the backdrops, only to rush on this episode with cliched soap opera storylines.

Gunner Jang's "heroic" exit is baffling at best. Why would a strategic figure like Jang walk into an army of Japanese soldiers raining bullets from gatling guns, only to lit a couple of dynamites to rescue a handful of soldiers? His exit would've been a lot more poignant with a suicidal mission to take out some of the traitors (e.g., Ae-Shin brother-in-law or Eulsa traitors).

Even more absurd is Dong-Mae's cliched rescue. It's as if the writers couldn't figure out how to make this character work. They painted themselves into a corner, augmented by hollow back story of Hotaru, the mute fortune teller. And he mysteriously survives? Is he Darth Maul?

Most baffling of all, why the heck was Eugene sent to the prison? A dishonorable discharge maybe, but a prison sentence? And when he is finally released, he becomes a hobo? A lazy writing to force a 3-year time jump.

I hate this episode. So many people sacrificed their lives, were put in danger, just to save one person. meh. I don't like it.

One of those episodes that had me crying buckets. These last few episodes are so good but so heavy.
