New Girl has been one of my comfort shows for the past for years now. So naturally I was pretty bummed when I heard that the show was wrapping up with it 7th season. For the most part I think that season 7 does a good job at bringing the show to a close.
The idea to start with a time-jump and have the final season show where the characters ended up in 5 years was an interesting way to have the show still feel fresh while attempting to give a satisfying ending.
Like all previous seasons of New Girl I can’t lie to you it isn’t exactly the funniest show on TV but if you like the quirky sensibilities that the show is known for then their are absolutely a few good laughs littered throughout the season.
I don’ have much to say about this season, as I said earlier this is really a comfort show for me. It’s funny enough for a casual viewing and heartfelt enough to be a satisfying conclusion for long time fans. I’d be lying if I said that New Girl was going to be a beloved classic sitcom in the years to come but it will always be a personal favourite.
What a lovely way to end this series. I’m gonna miss them, but I think it was the right time to end it. I was a little hesitant about the time jump at first, but I think it worked out well, and helped give us the reassurance that they’re all gonna end up happy in the future:heart:

I didn't care for where the show went at the end, here. Outside of one amazing episode (which had basically nothing to do with the plot direction I disliked), this all fell flat for me. Much too predictable that Jess and Nick would end up together; the show had been telling us that for six years, and it would've been nice to get a twist, have her marry someone completely unexpected—or not get married at all. You know, a surprise.

Until the end, this sitcom is not much different than its predecessors (Friends, HIMYM), about (mostly white) friends living together, and two couples in the group got together. Nonetheless, watching this feels very comforting. I love Jess and Nick's slow-burn, adorkable relationship. I like New Girl for its good writing, Winston as the prankster turn loving partner, Nick from an angry grumpy boy to a loving boyfriend & child books writer, Schmidt from a douchebag to a devoted husband & dad, and every moment of the True American game.
